Saturday brought warmer temperatures and anxious racers, ready to get on the track and fight through qualifying and all the races. Boy was it fun to watch! We had excellent drivers out on track, safely fighting for positions, along with a few different packs that stuck together throughout most of the races. There was some mayhem in the feature race that led to multiple cars having to leave the track before the race was over, but thankfully no serious injury to any driver. The cars did their job and protected their drivers! Thanks to his determination (and a little luck) our fearless leader even placed 3rd in the feature race, earning him a pretty cool 3D printed trophy. Congratulations to all the drivers who placed during the races, and condolences to those who were taken out of the running. Of course we couldn’t miss an opportunity for a group picture after the Vee feature race. We ended the day winding down at an awesome party thrown by our NOLA resident Robert Phillips, with live music and all the crawfish you could eat!

After some excitement (including a blown up trailer tire), Bigger Hammer arrived in New Orleans late on Thursday night which led to a very busy Friday to start the race and school weekend! Starting with setting up the paddock and tech for all the cars, the team worked diligently to get everything in place. After a few hiccups (such as cancelled flights, stubborn cars and flying canopies), the Bigger Hammer paddock and team were set up and ready to tackle test and tune day on the track! The crew had a few performance issues to solve on the cars, but nothing that our all star team couldn’t fix! The drivers spent their Valentines holiday with their one true love, race cars. Friday ended with happy drivers and a happy student who couldn’t wait to get back on the track the next day! A great way to kick off the first race of the year! Stay tuned for the next post!

Bigger Hammer kicked off the 2024 racing season at SVRA’s Speedtour races at Eagles Canyon this weekend. We had five drivers, including two student drivers. Both of our students, David Haldeman and Alejandro Verduzco, raced well, continued to improve their lap times throughout the weekend and earned their SVRA license. Driver Reed Evans unfortunately had engine problems after a couple of races, ending his racing for the weekend. Our other two drivers also battled a few issues with their cars but were able to compete all weekend. Saturday’s FV feature race was won by Bigger Hammer driver Joshua Justice. Bigger Hammer driver Steve Hild had the lead throughout most of the race until his throttle cable broke, sending him back to the paddock. Steve came back strong on Sunday winning Sunday’s FV feature race. Joshua Justice was close behind earning him a second place finish. With a quick turnaround time, Bigger Hammer heads to Hallett Motor Racing Circuit on Thursday with ten drivers to race in the 18th annual Mike Stevens Classic.

We finally did it! We made it to Road America, for VSCDA’s Ariens Art on Wheels event. We had a great weekend supporting 7 drivers. The track is beautiful and has a lot of cool features.

A few bumps along the way lead us to use the backup car we brought. We also had some rear end damage from a small accident on the Warrior. So the fearless leader enlisted help from Barrett, his chief mechanic, advice from another driver and a few other crew hands, who helped get it all straightened out, reinforced and ready to go. Bill got the green light from tech Sunday morning to get back out on the track.

All of our drivers did well, one of them even making it into the top ten! That would be Steve Hild in the 49 car. Three of our drivers decided to participate in the final race, which consisted of three combined groups. They held their own, and most of them finished the race, except one driver who lost a fan belt. We want to thank all our drivers for making the trip with us to Road America and give them a big congratulations for their improved lap times and competitive driving, making for a fun and exciting weekend.

Bigger Hammer now heads back to Texas to prepare for their next race at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit on October 6-8 in Oklahoma.

Bigger Hammer beat the heat this past weekend at ECR supporting ten drivers, including three student drivers. With temperatures topping 107°on Friday, Bigger Hammer’s Crew worked hard to keep all their drivers hydrated so that all their drivers could compete in every race. We’re very proud of our student drivers as each one continued to improve and hone their skills throughout the weekend.

Our seasoned drivers dominated the weekend with our drivers placing first in all four races of the weekend. The first race, which was on Saturday, had Dave McDowell passing the checkered flag with an impressive first place finish. Also placing in the top ten were Bigger Hammer racers Joshua Justice (4), Jason White (7) and Dave Bevan (8). The second race on Saturday had Jason White crossing the finish line first with Dave McDowell close behind in second, Joshua Justice (7) and Dave Bevan (8). Sunday’s races also resulted in some outstanding driving by our drivers. The first race found Jason White in an exciting battle with Elliot Barron. Jason was able to take over the lead in the last turn and finish first, closely followed by Dave McDowell in second. Joshua Justice (6) and Dave Bevan (7) also finished in the top ten. The final race of the weekend for Group 3 had Jason White winning with an impressive 10 second lead. Dave Bevan (5) and Joshua Justice (7) again finished in the top ten with Dave McDowell very close with an 11th place finish.

Bigger Hammer headed back home Sunday night to prepare for a quick turnaround as they head to Road America in Wisconsin on Wednesday to continue the 60th anniversary celebration of Formula Vees with VSCDA at the Ariens Art on Wheels Vintage Weekend. Bigger Hammer will again be traveling with two trailers as they are supporting eight drivers, all ready for a new, challenging track. Bigger Hammer’s leader, Bill Griffith, who has missed several races due to illness, is excited to get back into his Vee, The Warrior, again this weekend.

Another successful weekend of racing in the books for Bigger Hammer while racing at the SVRA Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. With only a few minor belt, throttle cable and brake issues, involving easy fixes, all the BH drivers enjoyed a great track with competitive racing. In between races included a trip through the Race Museum, some visits from family, birthday celebrations, some great chats around the dinner table as well as great conversations with other Vee drivers. Overall, the weekend at Indy provided clean, competitive racing and great memories for all of our drivers.
