As of 1am today we learned that the Town of Sheridan
is going to continue its discussion TONIGHT about whether they are going to let Chef Karyn grow in town or whether they are going to steal its future.
For those that don't know, Chef Karyn LLC is a thriving business in Sheridan and purchased the lot behind the kitchen to grow. The town has identified that lot as the lot they want for additional parking. They got it appaised without out us knowing, they made us a verbal offer which we declined, and they have given us a written offer that we declined. While I am not an attorney, it seems the town has 4 choices this evening. The town's verbal and written offers were SUBSTANTIALLY below what we paid for the land just 7 months ago and are magnificently below any other replacement property that we would be forced to consider. The appraisals were nothing short of irresponsible as they did not use our purchase as a comparable value, they did not compare it to any other property in the central business district and they used comparable sales from 5 years earlier. We believe there are four choices for the town council tonight.
1. They could continue down the path of forcibly taking the land through eminent domain.
2. They could let businesses thrive and let us grow (which will create more property taxes and jobs in the town). This vote would be to stop further efforts to steal the land. We have let the town council know that if they chose this vote, We would make a $2000 donation to the town of Sheridan to reimburse the town for their inaccurate appraisals or to the Sheridan Youth Assistance Program on the Town's behalf.
3. They could table discussion for another time. This would be a move to likely catch a time where the town or the property owners may not be aware and have a less public vote to head towards eminent domain.
4. We did counter offer both verbally and in writing that the town could lease some of the lot for parking so long as we could use part of the property for our growth. As responsible business owners, our growth plans had parking included in the plans.
We would appreciate any support you could provide us for this meeting. Your attendance at the meeting, prayers of support and emails to the council all go a long way! We pray that the council makes the right decision tonight!
