Want to know how to check your tire tread for free? All you need is a quarter!

It’s the old Canadian trick for checking your winter tires. Push a quarter into the tread, caribou nose first. If the tread covers part of the nose, you’re good. If you can see the whole nose, it’s time for new winter tires.

Kevin from CAA Roadside explains why it matters: worn tread can’t clear snow, ice and water from under your tires, which can cause your vehicle to slip.
