“Your house is on fire!!!”
Our bellies were full of plenty of fried turkey, a plethora of homemade fixins and more pies, cakes and cookies than you can imagine. Our family and friends had gathered here in Cypress to celebrate Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, back in Waco, my young niece’s family’s life was also unknowingly being consumed - by a fire.
Nobody ever wants to hear that their house, or anything else, is on fire. Certainly, nobody wants to hear that on Thanksgiving afternoon. Sadly, Wyatt, Kaitlynn and freshly-born Walker (Texas Baby) received that call on this fateful Thanksgiving Thursday afternoon. They live on and work for a ranch in the Waco area, with their house being built in to part of the barn on the property, a “barndominium” of sorts, if you will. The fire started out in the barn area and ultimately consumed their home and everything in it. Thankfully, they were not in it. The 3 hour drive back to Waco had to be the longest of their lives.
In short, they have lost everything, including all of the recent baby shower gifts that proceeded the very recent birth of their first child - Walker, Texas Baby. Along with that, they no longer have all of the things you can think of - clothes, furniture, dishes and everything else we all take for granted in our daily lives. Wyatt also lost his work truck in the mayhem and initially thought that their dogs had been lost as well, however, they have been found to be ok. Everything else…not so much.
I can assure you that these are the young folks that we want to carry on our Country. They work harder than most (all?) of their generation, have integrity beyond words and will not let this tragedy stop them. However, the reality is they have to start over, in just about every way.
I rarely ask for anything from my social media folks. This time I will. I you can find it in your hearts, and budget, to donate to the fund that has been started on their behalf, you would become what the epitome of Thanksgiving (and the upcoming Christmas season) is all about. I can assure you that your investment will not be for naught and that this family will rise to the top and make all of us proud. They may be down, but they are not out.
Thanks for reading my post and giving a “hand up” (not a “hand out”).
Godspeed.
Randy & Jenn
