Scam Attempt Today

We may be getting a bad review or two after what happened today, so I want to explain the situation before anyone hears only one side.

A guy contacted us wanting to sell us a set of 35x12.50R20 Toyo A/T III tires for $900. Honestly, that price was so far below what we can buy them for from our distributors that I immediately thought something wasn’t right.

We picked up the tires, and I asked the delivery driver where they came from because I wanted to know how someone got such a great deal. He told me where he had picked them up. I contacted that tire shop, and they confirmed they had recently sold those exact tires for over $2,000.

That’s when everything made sense.

There is a scam going around where someone calls a tire or automotive shop, pays for expensive tires over the phone with a stolen or fraudulent card, and then has someone else pick up and deliver the tires. A couple of weeks later, the original shop gets hit with a chargeback. The shop has already paid its distributor for the tires, and then thousands of dollars gets pulled back out of its account.

We were able to stop it today and get the tires back to the shop they came from.

The person who tried to sell us the tires wasn’t happy and said we were doing bad business and that he was going to leave bad reviews everywhere.

If that happens, so be it.

We would rather lose a sale than knowingly participate in something that could cost another small business thousands of dollars. We work hard to do business the right way, and sometimes doing the right thing means walking away from money.

Know who you’re buying from, and if a deal sounds too good to be true, take a second look. Protect your business and protect each other.
