Please consider helping this great organization

This holiday season, we're proud to team up with the South Oldham Fire Department to support their TOY DRIVE and spread some joy to children in need. We're collecting new, unwrapped toys to help bring smiles to faces across our community. Join us in making a difference—your donation can light up a child's holiday. Please drop off your toys at the South Oldham fire station or the Luxemburger's house and help us create a season of giving!

If you're unable to shop but still want to support, click the link below, and Jake's family will handle the shopping for you.🎁

Have a European make? Now that we’re having these cool mornings is the car yelling about coolant level on the first start of the day?

It’s that time of the year again. Don’t worry 90% of the time the system just needs topped up due to the weather change. But drop the car by just to make sure that’s all it. We’ve been flooded with cases like this lately.

Something I see unfortunately too often. This BMW came in with a ton of codes and drivability concerns. The customer was surprised to find out that an oil change corrected all the issues!

The car was previously fitted with a cheap aftermarket oil filter at last service. These filters don’t fit in the housing like a genuine part. This causes a reduction in oil pressure and the problems start mounting.

Close enough is good in horseshoes, not in your $10k+ engine!

Had to break out the old BM-1 adaptor plug so I could talk to this 1997 BMW Z3. Haven’t used this in what seems like forever.

Working on “old” cars is refreshing at times.
Not too old though as this example doesn’t have but 48k miles on it!

This Porsche Cayenne had all the trouble codes! A new valve cover solved two problems: a nasty oil leak and a failed crankcase ventilation system. It’s back in business now.

Next up on it: front/rear brake service

Why I won’t quote jobs over the phone part 3. Not trying to be difficult or shifty, there are just too many variables to accurately say what it may need until proper diagnostic is carried out. Case in point:

Customer complaint: Left sliding door stays locked and won’t slide. Another shop says it needs a lock actuator but customer didn’t like the price so shopped it around. I wouldn’t quote it but she drops it off anyways.

The cause? A faulty fuel door switch! The vehicle thinks the fuel door is open which overrides the left side sliding door function so the door doesn’t slide into the gas pump.

Yes car repairs suck and can be expensive but what’s more expensive is doing unnecessary repairs. And best of all….. this repair is significantly cheaper than if the door lock was the problem.

Proper diagnostic is key to a confirmed fix.

Would you be concerned if you went to a Dr and they saw something concerning but didn’t inform you?

A solid percentage of new-to-me customers have a very serious oil consumption issue with their car and have no idea. The big box stores, chains, drivethrus with a million cars in the parking lot are too busy selling you crap you don’t need. They don’t care and they won’t inform their customer.

Photo: 1.5 quarts of oil in this engine that holds 5qts. Not good.

Why we don’t quote prices over the phone. It’s not trying to be difficult, there are just too many variables. Be leery of a shop that tells you what you want to hear! Their story will often change once they have your car.

Case in point: the V6 Honda/Acura engine is plagued with an oil leak from this oil valve that is now drowning the alternator with engine oil. The customer has already had another shop replace the alternator last year but it’s bad again from the consequential damage. We wouldn’t have known that by pricing an alternator job over the phone and the customer would have chosen the cheapest bid only to have another repeat failure.

Everyday it seems I diagnose a car with a bad case of “tire store-itus”, a common and dangerous disease. Cheap aftermarket parts and one size fits all fluids wreak havoc on later model cars.

Find yourself a “parts snob”, a badge I proudly wear. Regardless of what you drive, always genuine parts and fluids.

Know someone with a Ford Explorer / F150 / Ta**us / Edge etc with the 3.5 V6? The water pump is INSIDE the engine requiring significant effort to gain access to it. Terrible design. Even more terrible is it can leak internally and you’d never know. The only indicator is the leaking coolant mixes with engine oil. Your oil level will be abnormally high and coolant level low. The big box stores and chains aren’t paying attention to this when they’re servicing your car, but I do.

Even if it isn’t an import my promise to you is to give 100% effort. True service ADVISING vs service SELLING is what sets me apart.

Happy Friday eve friends!
