Engine is out, tires are mounted and now time to put in some elbow grease by going over the entire frame and removing any and all dirt, grime, corrosion and discoloration. With the engine removed now it will also be easier to continue disassembling it to prep for powder coat.

The GSXR 711 has rubber! I was planning on getting the Michelin Road 5 but these Power 5s were on sale for a great deal. I’ve trusted Michelin Motorcycle tires on the racetrack and street so I’m sure these will perform great!

Taking some measurements tonight on the GSXR 711 camshaft journal.

I discovered the original was broken when I started disassembly. Luckily, the replacement I found isn’t far off where it needs to be, so just a little bit of elbow grease and care and it will be good to go.

An update has been overdue for the GSXR 711 project! Life’s been busy the past few weeks and in the mean time I’ve been chipping away at small stuff while waiting on some goodies!

I’ve got the wiring harness wrapped with gray wire sleeving and shrink tube, it should look nice and tidy up against the aluminum frame.

The cylinders are removed and awaiting honing, all 4 pistons blasted and ready for reinstall with fresh rings.

After seeing the finish on the head, cylinders and cases I’ve decided to have all of them powder-coated black, so I’ve added engine removal and disassembly to my to do list.

Onto the goodies!

The wheels were powdercoated a metallic white and look awesome! The pic doesn’t do them justice.

The FCR41s are gone to their new owner and in their place are Mikuni RS 38s, which should get rid of the bog and lack of power low in the rpm range.

To protect the brand new mikunis (since this will be a street bike) are a set of K&N pod air filters!

Also pictured! The titanium headers clean up very nicely in the v***r blaster and are going to look and sound the part when all is said and done.

More to come!

And keep an eye out for an update on my Wife’s CB750 project!

Cleaned up the brake components for a customers Suzuki GS750 he’s bringing back to life! He intends on painting these so I stopped after blasting with aluminum oxide, that should give the paint a nice grippy surface to adhere to.

Carbs for the same bike are up next!

When you’re wife gets her own project bike and you give her just as much attention, guidance, knowledge and effort as you would your own projects so she ends up with a bike even cooler than yours 💪

A little before and after on the head gasket surface, combustion chambers and valve seats. There’s still work to be done to clean up the ports, so more to come on that. I’m considering blasting the old paint away and having this head cerakoted.

Made some progress on the head of the 1100 last night. I removed all the valves, and accompanying hardware so 1. I can repair the camshaft cap that was broken and 2. Clean up the head, gasket surface, valves, valve seats and ports.

This is going to clean up really nicely!
