It’s been an honor to call Buddy Atkinson a friend. We are sending condolences to his loved ones. Thank you for all you did for our community. Rest easy sir.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of retired Captain Arnold “Buddy” Atkinson. Captain Atkinson served CCFD and his community for 29 years. He worked at Firehouses 1, 10, 11, and for the past 20 years at Firehouse 13. Throughout his long career he responded to countless incidents saving lives and property. More importantly, Captain Atkinson had a profound impact on the people he served alongside.
Captain Atkinson was known for his leadership, his work ethic, and a keen sense of humor around the firehouse. Having mentored many firefighters throughout his career he has made a lasting impact on CCFD and the numerous firefighters that had the fortunate opportunity to work with him or cross his path.
Captain Atkinson had been diagnosed with occupational cancer and had been fighting cancer bravely for the past several months. Captain Atkinson’s passing is considered a line of duty death (LODD) due to occupational cancer.
