How to pick up your vehicle
And they took my driver's license so now what....
If you were stopped by law enforcement and your car was towed and they kept your driver license.
You will need to have a copy of your license or go by the SCDMV and get a photo ID. This is why I recommend that you have photos of your information in your cell phone.
Also, do not send any one to get items from your vehicle. We will not allow anyone to enter into your auto for any reason. This includes your buddy or girlfriend that may have left something in your car. They will just have to wait until you give it to them. This is for you and your property protection.
Here is what we will need from you to pick up your vehicle.
1. Proof of ownership - this means you will need the registration to the vehicle showing you as the owner. If your car was not registered yet, you may use
the title to the vehicle as long as it is in your name.
2. Proof of who you are - this would be a driver's license or a state issued Id.
3. Proof of insurance - which is your insurance Id card with your name, the year, make and model of your auto with the VIN number of the vehicle and, the current effective dates. If you will be driving the car off our lot.
Driver - you will need to bring a licensed driver with you to drive your vehicle. They will need to show us their driver license.
Or you may pick up your vehicle with a car trailer, another towing service or we can retow your vehicle to your home or a shop that you would like it to go, for a small fee.
You ask why do we need this. We do not know you. We need to know that vehicle is registered to you. And we need to know you are who you say you are, so we don't give your car to someone who is not You. We can't let the auto leave without insurance and a licensed driver. Because in the state of South Carolina you must have insurance and a license to drive on our highways.
Not to mention a copy of these documents must be attached to the tow bills for the SCHP and HCPD's inspections. Yes we are inspected.
4. Cash - we are a cash only based business. We have never been apart of the merchant services system. So therefore, we cannot take and process any credit cards, debit cards, or checks.
Fees are as follows for law enforcement wrecker calls.
Towing fee is set at $272.00.
Storage fee is set at $47.00 per day after the first day.
Fees are set by SCHP and HCPD.
Retow fee is set by us. Therefore we can do it cheaper. We base that fee on distance. A basic retow fee for our local area starts at $130.00 depends on the distance it can be lower or higher.
I hope all of this makes sense to you. I have tried really hard to explain it for you.
