After more than 20 years of proudly serving the Harley-Davidson riders of greater Columbia, I have made the difficult decision to close our dealership.
Since opening our doors in 2005, this business has been far more than a place of sales and service — it has been a gathering point for friendships, shared passion, and unforgettable experiences. Along the way, we have been blessed to build special relationships with the Harley riding community not only across South Carolina, but throughout the Southeast and across the nation.
In my 79 years, I can say without hesitation that the men and women who ride these iconic motorcycles are among the finest, most caring, and most generous people I have ever known. The support, camaraderie, and loyalty shown to our dealership and to my family have been extraordinary, and for that I will always be deeply grateful.
I extend my sincere appreciation to Harley-Davidson Motor Company, our fellow dealers, our dedicated employees past and present, and most especially to the riders and enthusiasts who welcomed us into this remarkable community. The memories we have created together — from rides and rallies to everyday conversations in the showroom — will remain some of the fondest of my life.
While this chapter is coming to a close, the friendships and spirit of the Harley community will endure. Thank you for allowing my family and me to be part of your journey.
Our last day of operation will be Saturday, February 28, 2026. If you’re in the neighborhood and have some time to spare, come by and say hello. We’d love to share a few stories and even a few tales with you. From the Iron Butt 1500 miles in 24 hours ride. The Coast to Coast in 50 Hours ride. The Artic Ocean, Alaska to Key West, Florida ride that raised over $250K for the Special Olympics.
I especially want to recognize the many who provided support and volunteered to help, your participation mattered. I know how much I enjoyed the annual New Years Day Polar Bear rides. And the too many Gene’s Birthday Rides, they all combined to develop the culture of Thunder Tower Harley-Davidson. The memories of which I will take with me very where I go.
With gratitude and respect, Gene Preston, Owner of Thunder Tower Harley-Davidson, Columbia, SC
