What is a CSA Score?🤷
Hi Folks,
A CSA score is a safety
performance measurement used by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to identify unsafe motor carriers and drivers.
CSA stands for Compliance, Safety, Accountability. The program uses roadside inspection reports, crash reports, and violation history to monitor how safely a trucking company operates.🚛
The system is built around categories called BASICs (Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories):
1.Unsafe Driving
2.Speeding, reckless driving, improper lane changes, following too closely, etc.
3.Hours-of-Service Compliance
Logbook violations, ELD violations, driving beyond legal hours.
4.Driver Fitness💪
Invalid CDL, medical card problems, unqualified drivers.
5.Controlled Substances/Alcohol
Drug and alcohol violations.
6.Vehicle Maintenance🚛
Brake violations, tires, lights, suspension, leaks, and other equipment defects.
And California carriers are fully subject to FMCSA safety oversight, CSA scoring, roadside inspections, audits, and enforcement actions just like carriers in every other state.
In California specifically, the state participates heavily with federal commercial vehicle enforcement programs. So even intrastate carriers can feel the effects of CSA-style enforcement.
