💥 Why Body Work Is “So Expensive”💥
While we still wait for Comcast to get their life together still (Yay day 5 of no internet!) why not give you a breakdown of what goes into body and paint work and where those costs come from! (Yes I'm writing this from my phone)
We hear it all the time: “WHY does it cost so much to fix my car?!”
We’re basically surgeons… for metal. Well except our patients don’t cooperate, have mystery injuries, and sometimes show up after “my cousin tried to fix it" (and correcting that usually costs more than doing it right the first time)
Automotive paint is straight-up rocket science sometimes (insert picture of Beaker from The Muppets) Matching colors isn’t “red + red = same red.” We’re dealing with pearls, metallics, flakes, sun fade, clear coat degradation, ect. and that all takes time to work with.
Using frame machines, welders, paint booths, specialized scanners, body supplies, ect all require special skills. If it was easy to do body & paint work, we wouldnt be in business.
Labor = experience, precision, and accountability. You’re paying for trained techs who know what they’re doing, fix your car properly per standardized repair procedures, stand behind the work, don’t cut corners and the ability to undo the “buddy with a grinder” repairs from last time. Quality costs — cheap work costs more later. Cheap work is like a bad wig — everyone can see it but nobody wants to be the one to say it.
Body & paint is 90% prep, 10% spray. Sanding, blocking, priming, masking…the part you don’t see is what takes the longest. The best repair is the one you can’t even tell was repaired. That takes skill, patience, and craftsmanship — not just “a little bondo and paint.”
The TL;DR? You’re not paying for just paint and bodywork. You’re paying for quality, safety, proper materials, professional equipment, and a repair done RIGHT the first time.
Thanks for sticking it out and reading all this. We hope this helps give you insight on where your hard earned dollars go and why when choosing us. Tune in for another tip soon!
