Some Things Just Seem to Come in Pairs

Over the course of running our vehicle donation program, we’ve noticed something interesting: vehicle donations often seem to come in clusters. We’ll go for a while without seeing a particular type of vehicle, and then suddenly, two or three show up almost at the same time.

That happened again this past week.

We received two Buick LaCrosse sedans from two different communities (Oak Crest Village and Maris Grove), and both are exceptional examples. They have low mileage, have been extremely well maintained, and are loaded with luxury features for their respective model years.

And then there’s the fuel economy. These large, comfortable sedans are rated at 26–27 MPG on the highway, which is pretty impressive for a car of this size.

Put it all together, and these two LaCrosse’s are a tremendous amount of car for the money.

If you’re looking for a comfortable, well-equipped vehicle that won’t break the bank, you may want to keep an eye out for these two. They’ll be available for sale soon.

This van is in excellent condition with only 78,000 miles. It features the highly regarded BraunAbility conversion, including a manual side-entry ramp and incline detection system, making it a dependable and accessible transportation solution.

Because handicap-accessible vehicles serve a specialized market, we're asking for your help in spreading the word. We've priced this van aggressively at just $26,900, while comparable vehicles at mobility dealerships typically sell in the mid-$30,000 range. A new accessible van equipped with similar features can cost around $80,000, making this an exceptional value.

We facilitate a vehicle donation program for several local charities. Most of the vehicles we receive are donated by residents of the Erickson retirement communities. These donors are typically in their 80s and 90s and have reached the point where they no longer need to drive.

When we pick up a donated vehicle, we ask the donor to remove anything they want to keep and leave behind anything they no longer need. After nearly a decade of doing this, we've noticed a remarkably consistent pattern in what remains inside these vehicles.

The items they leave behind tell a story. They reflect a generation shaped by hardship, self-reliance, and a habit of always being prepared. In many ways, the contents of these vehicles provide a glimpse into the values and life experiences that defined them.

This was a generation that believed in taking care of what they owned, planning for the unexpected, and helping others whenever they could. The items left behind aren't just things, they're reminders of the values that rode along with them every time they turned the key.

We’ve had an interesting couple of days at MHA.

Two donations—completely different, but surprisingly similar.

From Ashby Ponds, a 1997 Honda Civic with just 43,000 miles—that’s roughly 1,500 miles a year.

From Oak Crest Village, a 2022 Toyota Corolla with only 7,800 miles—about 1,900 miles a year.

Twenty-five years apart… and both barely driven.

Proceeds from both vehicles will go directly to their respective Resident Care Funds, helping support the communities they came from.

Over the past few weeks, four Toyota Camrys have come in through donations from several charities. We’ve seen repeat vehicles before—but never this many at once.

Honestly, it’s a good problem to have. Camrys are known for their comfort, reliability, and long-term value—making them some of the best cars to sell.

I know. I know. “You’ll never buy a Prius.”

You would rather suck every bit of fossil fuel out of the earth and not leave any for your kids. Payback for when they kept you up at night.

But let us be honest. If you drove to a gas station in the last week, you have thought about it, haven’t you? It's heading fast towards $4 per gallon.

It is okay, you can tell me. You are among friends.

But what about your image? Honestly, you are giving yourself too much credit. Nobody cares. I hate to be the one that tells you, but you are not the topic of conversation at anybody’s dinner table.

If you are still worried about being seen, here is the plan.
- Leave early so your neighbors do not see you!
- Park far away from your office (you need the extra steps anyway)
- If you do get caught, tell people that you are holding it for a cousin that is away in the Peace Corp.

Meanwhile you will be getting 50+ MPG while everyone else is making donations to the gas station.

Good news: I currently have TWO Prius ready to go.

Quiet. Reliable. Ridiculously cheap to drive.
