In the fall of 2022, Shane, a friend of mine, told me about two Chevelle's that an old neighbor of his dad's had owned when he was growing up. Although he hadn't seen the cars in years, he was sure they were still tucked away safely in the garage. Murray, the original owner of the Chevelle's, had unfortunately passed. However, his wife, Carol, gave us the opportunity to lay eyes on these vehicles in person. Shane, Ginna and I met with her on a Sunday and our only intent was to photograph the cars. We had the pleasure of speaking with Carol and learning the history of Murray's Chevelle's. As we were getting ready to leave, Carol mentioned that her only regret was never having the chance to ride in the cars. Looking at the windshield, we noticed that the last Pa state inspection was in 1977.
Come Monday evening, I received a phone call from Carol stating that the Chevelle's were for sale and if interested she would like us to be the ones to purchase them. In talking with John Hofmann, a good friend who we have previously restored a few Mopar's for, he told me about his dream of owning a 67 Chevelle someday. In John's words, "Although I have grown into a Mopar nut, I have always had a place in my heart for the 67 Chevelle SS396". John was just 12 years old when the 67 Chevelle was released. He remembers admiring two Chevelle's walking to his school bus stop and that's where the love for the 67 Chevelle began for him. John jumped at the opportunity to buy this 67 Chevelle to fulfill his dream of owning one. With the original motor and transmission missing from the car, John decided to make changes to the Chevelle restoring it to the way he would have ordered it if he could have.
