Your car’s future comes down to one choice: spend about $100 on maintenance now, or $2,000+ on emergency repairs later.
Skipped oil changes and delayed brake checks are how people end up stranded, or staring at a repair bill bigger than their car payment.
With 40+ years in the shop, we’ve seen both paths. Stay on schedule and you drive with confidence and spend less over time. Skip it, and you call us in crisis mode.
Let’s get you on the right path. Message or call us and we’ll map out what your vehicle actually needs 515-255-1797

That check engine light is not a suggestion. It is a warning, and guessing is how small problems turn into expensive ones.
At Lane’s Automotive, we pull the codes, then we find the cause. Misfires, sensors, intermittent issues, the stuff other shops clear and send you down the road with. We find what others miss.
Diagnostics. Honest answers. A small-town shop in the big city.
Book now at www.lanesautorepair.com or call 515-255-1797.

This is a DOD job — Displacement On Demand (GM’s cylinder-deactivation system, also called AFM).
The idea is simple: shut off 4 cylinders on the highway to save fuel. The hardware is not simple. Special collapsing lifters do the switching. When one fails, it stays collapsed, rubs the cam, and starts eating the engine.
That’s what you’re looking at here. Failed lifter vs. a good one. Next step is pulling the cam to check the damage.
Hear a tick in a 5.3 or 6.2 GM truck? That’s the warning. Come see us before it becomes a bigger bill.
