# # # TOO FAR GONE?

Anybody who's restored an old vehicle has looked at a part and wondered:

**“Is this even worth saving?”**

Years of rust.

Dirt.

Grease.

Neglect.

Maybe it's been sitting forgotten in the corner of a garage or buried in a field for decades.

From the outside, it can look finished.

Throw it away.

Buy another one.

Start over.

But then you start cleaning.

Strip away the grime.

Remove the corrosion.

Get down beneath everything the years have piled onto it.

And sometimes you discover something surprising:

# # # **THERE’S STILL GOOD METAL UNDERNEATH.**

People can feel too far gone too.

Maybe you've made mistakes you're ashamed of.

Maybe addiction controlled years of your life.

Maybe a relationship fell apart.

Maybe you've hurt people.

Maybe somebody hurt you.

Maybe you've drifted so far from God that you wonder whether He would even want you back.

And after enough years of carrying those things, it's easy to start believing:

**“This is just who I am now.”**

But that's not what Scripture says.

📖 **2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV**

*"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."*

God specializes in restoration.

Not pretending the damage never happened.

Not spraying something shiny over the rust.

**Real change.**

He forgives.

He rebuilds.

He restores.

He takes lives people have written off and gives them purpose again.

🔧 **SHOP CHECK**

Have you been defining yourself by something God wants to restore?

Your worst mistake isn't your name.

Your worst season isn't your identity.

What happened to you isn't the limit of what God can do through you.

And what you did yesterday doesn't have to determine who you become tomorrow.

Restoration can take work.

Sometimes things need stripped away.

Sometimes damaged areas have to be exposed before they can be repaired.

Sometimes rebuilding takes longer than we'd like.

But difficult restoration doesn't mean something isn't worth restoring.

At B&M, anybody can look at a rusty old part and see corrosion.

A builder looks deeper and asks:

**“What's still underneath?”**

God sees deeper than the surface too.

He sees beyond the scars.

Beyond the failures.

Beyond the years you wish you could get back.

And when a life is surrendered to Christ, Scripture doesn't call it cleaned up.

# # # **IT CALLS IT NEW.**

So if you've been thinking you're too damaged...

Too dirty...

Too broken...

Too far away...

Remember this:

# # # **GOD STILL SEES WHAT’S UNDERNEATH.**

Don't let yesterday convince you that God can't do something new with tomorrow.

🔑 KEY FOB WORKS...
WHEN IT WANTS TO?

Press it once...

Nothing.

Press it again...

Nothing.

Hold it over your head, point it at the truck, turn sideways and perform the sacred parking-lot ritual...

CLICK! 😂

Before you throw the key fob away, let’s figure out what’s actually happening.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🔧 SHOP SECRET:

AN INTERMITTENT KEY FOB PROBLEM
DOESN’T AUTOMATICALLY MEAN
THE FOB IS BAD.

There are several possible causes, and one of the simplest is also one of the cheapest:

🔋 THE FOB BATTERY.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🔋 START WITH THE SIMPLE STUFF.

A weak coin-cell battery can reduce the fob’s operating range or cause intermittent operation.

Possible clues:

🔑 You have to press the button several times.

📏 You have to stand closer to the vehicle.

🤏 Certain buttons seem less responsive.

🚗 The vehicle occasionally reports that the key isn’t detected on push-button-start systems.

Depending on the vehicle, replacing the fob battery may be a very simple first step.

Use the correct battery type and install it correctly.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🔑 BUT WHAT IF A NEW BATTERY DOESN’T FIX IT?

NOW WE KEEP DIAGNOSING.

The problem could potentially involve:

🔧 Worn or damaged fob buttons

💥 Physical damage to the fob

💧 Moisture or corrosion inside it

📡 Communication/interference issues

🧠 Vehicle receiver or module problems

🔌 Vehicle electrical issues

⚙️ Programming or synchronization issues on applicable systems

The exact system varies by vehicle.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

👀 HERE’S A GREAT CLUE:

DO YOU HAVE A SECOND FOB?

If one fob works perfectly...

and the other one acts possessed...

😂

that gives us useful information.

If BOTH fobs have the same problem, that may point the investigation in a different direction.

It doesn’t prove the answer...

but it’s a valuable diagnostic clue.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🚗 PUSH-BUTTON START?

Some vehicles can warn:

“KEY NOT DETECTED”

even though the key is sitting right there.

A weak fob battery may be one possibility...

but don’t automatically assume that’s the ONLY possibility.

Many vehicles also have a backup procedure for starting the vehicle when the fob battery is weak or dead.

That procedure varies by manufacturer.

You may be surprised what your vehicle can do.

📡 WHAT ABOUT INTERFERENCE?

Radio-frequency interference can sometimes affect keyless-entry operation.

If your fob suddenly behaves strangely in ONE particular location but works normally elsewhere...

that detail is worth remembering.

Again:

THE PATTERN IS A CLUE.

We’ve all seen it.

Arm straight out.

Fob pointed directly at the vehicle.

At some point...

LET’S JUST CHECK THE BATTERY.

⚠️ ONE MORE THING:

If the vehicle uses a proximity or smart-key system, don’t assume every starting or unlocking problem is caused by the remote itself.

Vehicle battery voltage, antennas, modules, wiring and other parts of the system can matter too.

That’s why diagnosis beats guessing.

KEY FOB ACTING UP?

START SIMPLE.

🔋 Check or replace the correct fob battery.

🔑 Try the spare fob if you have one.

👀 Look for damaged buttons or housing.

🔍 If the problem continues, diagnose the system.

Just another day in shop life

Some people spend vacation watching the waves. I’m over here watching pistons go up and down. 😂🔧

A little behind-the-scenes engine time at B&M Autoworks & Custom Fabrication in Clinton, Tennessee. Turning the engine by hand, getting a closer look, and enjoying the process.

Apparently “playing with blocks” still makes me happy—they’ve just gotten heavier and more expensive. 🤣

# # # WHAT’S KEEPING YOU STUCK?

Anybody who's worked on an older vehicle has met **that bolt.**

Years of rust.

Heat cycles.

Road salt.

Dirt and moisture.

You put a wrench on it...

Nothing.

More leverage.

Still nothing.

The adjustment needs to move.

You know which direction it needs to go.

But something old has been sitting in the same position for so long that it **doesn't want to let go.**

Life can get that way too.

We ask God for something new.

A fresh start.

A restored relationship.

A different direction.

Peace.

Growth.

A new chapter.

But sometimes we're asking God to move us forward while we're still holding tightly to something behind us.

📖 **Isaiah 43:18-19 KJV**

*"Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old."*

*"Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?"*

God wasn't telling His people that the past never mattered.

He was reminding them:

# # # **THE PAST DOESN’T GET TO DECIDE EVERYTHING THAT COMES NEXT.**

Maybe you're holding onto an old failure.

Something you did years ago that you've already asked God to forgive.

Maybe it's an old hurt.

Somebody wounded you, and you've carried it so long that bitterness has almost become part of your identity.

Maybe it's an old version of yourself.

You've changed.

God has been working in you.

But you still see yourself as the person you used to be.

Or maybe it's simply fear.

God is opening another door, but what happened last time has you afraid to walk through this one.

🔧 **SHOP CHECK**

Ask yourself:

**What am I still allowing yesterday to control today?**

Forgiveness doesn't mean pretending something didn't happen.

Moving forward doesn't mean the past wasn't real.

It means we stop allowing what happened behind us to determine every direction we take from here.

Sometimes that requires prayer.

Sometimes a difficult conversation.

Sometimes forgiveness.

Sometimes admitting we were wrong.

And sometimes it's accepting that God's grace really is big enough to cover something we've been punishing ourselves for long after we've asked Him to forgive it.

In the shop, you can't properly adjust something that's frozen solid.

First you've got to break it free.

Then movement becomes possible.

Maybe there's something in your life that needs the same thing.

# # # **YOU CAN’T SET A NEW DIRECTION UNTIL SOMETHING OLD LETS GO.**

Give God the hurt.

Give Him the failure.

Give Him the fear.

Give Him the chapter you've been rereading long after He started writing the next one.

💧 PUDDLE UNDER YOUR CAR?

DON’T PANIC YET.

You walk outside, look underneath your vehicle and see a puddle.

First thought:

“GREAT... WHAT’S LEAKING NOW?” 😳

But before you start pricing an engine, transmission and your firstborn...

LET’S LOOK AT WHAT’S ACTUALLY ON THE GROUND. 😂

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🔧 SHOP SECRET:

NOT EVERY PUDDLE UNDER A VEHICLE
MEANS SOMETHING IS BROKEN.

One of the most common NORMAL puddles?

💧 WATER FROM THE A/C SYSTEM.

When your air conditioner removes moisture from the air, condensation can drain underneath the vehicle.

On a hot, humid day, that puddle can be surprisingly noticeable.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

💧 CLEAR WATER?

If it’s:

✅ Clear

✅ Thin like water

✅ Basically odorless

and you’ve recently been running the A/C...

there’s a good chance you’re seeing normal condensation.

That’s usually the puddle we LIKE to find. 😂

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🚨 BUT DON’T ASSUME EVERY PUDDLE IS WATER.

Different vehicle fluids can have different:

🎨 Colors

👃 Odors

🤏 Textures

📍 Locations

And fluid appearance can change with age, contamination and the vehicle involved.

So color alone isn’t a perfect diagnosis.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🛢️ ENGINE OIL

Often feels slick or oily and may appear:

🟤 Amber/brown when relatively fresh

⚫ Dark brown or black as it ages

An oil leak might come from MANY different places.

Finding oil underneath the vehicle tells us:

THERE’S OIL THERE.

It does NOT automatically tell us which gasket or component failed.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🌡️ COOLANT

Coolant can appear in several colors depending on the vehicle and product.

Green, orange, yellow, pink, blue, purple...

the rainbow has entered the chat. 🌈😂

Coolant can also have a distinctive sweet odor.

⚠️ Coolant is toxic.

Keep pets and children away from any suspected coolant spill and clean it appropriately.

⚙️ TRANSMISSION / OTHER FLUIDS

Depending on the vehicle, transmission fluid and other hydraulic fluids may also leak.

Again...

DON’T IDENTIFY A FLUID ONLY BY COLOR.

Age and contamination can dramatically change its appearance.

Location, smell, feel and proper inspection all help.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🛑 BRAKE FLUID?

THIS ONE GETS OUR ATTENTION.

If you suspect a brake-fluid leak or notice:

🦶 Soft or sinking brake pedal

🚨 Brake warning light

💧 Fluid near a wheel or brake component

or a sudden change in braking...

DON’T KEEP DRIVING IT AROUND TO “SEE WHAT HAPPENS.”

Braking problems deserve immediate attention.

🔍 HERE’S A SIMPLE FIRST LOOK:

See a puddle?

Ask:

📍 WHERE is it under the vehicle?

🎨 WHAT does it look like?

👃 Does it have an odor?

🤏 Is it watery or oily?

📏 How LARGE is the puddle?

⏱️ Is it getting worse?

❄️ Was the A/C running?

🚨 Are any warning lights on?

Those clues can make diagnosis much easier.

😂 THE GOOD NEWS:

Sometimes...

that terrifying puddle underneath your vehicle...

is literally your air conditioner doing its job.

Your truck isn’t bleeding out.

It’s SWEATING. 😂💧

DON’T PANIC.

BUT DON’T IGNORE IT EITHER.

💧 Identify whether it’s actually water.

👀 Look for changes in fluid levels.

🚨 Pay attention to warning lights.

🔍 Have unknown or recurring leaks inspected.

And if it involves BRAKES, active OVERHEATING, a major fluid loss, or unsafe vehicle operation...

DON’T KEEP DRIVING IT.

# # # WHAT AREN’T YOU SEEING?

Every driver knows about blind spots.

You check the mirror.

The lane looks clear.

Everything you can see tells you it's safe to move over.

But there can still be an entire vehicle sitting just outside your field of view.

The problem isn't necessarily that you weren't looking.

**It's that your view had limits.**

Life has blind spots too.

And they're usually easier to recognize in somebody else than in ourselves.

We notice their attitude.

Their stubbornness.

Their bad decisions.

Their pride.

Their habits.

Meanwhile, we can be completely unaware of something in our own life that everybody around us can see.

📖 **Psalm 19:12 KJV**

*"Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults."*

That's a powerful prayer because David recognized something we all need to remember:

# # # **WE DON'T ALWAYS SEE OURSELVES CLEARLY.**

Maybe it's the way we speak to our family.

Maybe we interrupt everybody but don't realize it.

Maybe we've become negative.

Maybe pride keeps us from admitting we're wrong.

Maybe we're holding onto bitterness while calling it being cautious.

Maybe somebody who loves us has tried to point something out...

and instead of listening, we immediately became defensive.

🔧 **SHOP CHECK**

Here's a difficult prayer:

**“God, show me something about myself that I can't see.”**

Not:

“God, show my spouse what they're doing wrong.”

Not:

“God, fix everybody at work.”

Not:

“God, prove that I'm right.”

**Show me.**

That takes humility.

Sometimes God answers through Scripture.

Sometimes through conviction.

Sometimes through circumstances.

And sometimes He uses somebody who loves us enough to tell us something we'd rather not hear.

When you're driving, understanding that mirrors have blind spots doesn't make mirrors useless.

It makes you wiser about trusting **only** what you can see in them.

Life deserves the same humility.

Your perspective matters.

But your perspective isn't perfect.

Before making the move...

look again.

Listen.

Pray.

And be willing to consider that there may be something outside your current field of view.

Ask God to reveal the blind spots.

Because sometimes the thing we most need to see...
