Asked how we fix wheels damaged by curbs or chips, and there are a few different ways depending on what happened. On a normal curbed alloy wheel, painted black or gray or whatever color, we grind the curbed area back down, smooth it out, and feather it. Then we work through different levels of sandpaper until it is smooth enough to paint. Then we repaint the wheel. It is very similar to doing a fender or a bumper where you have scratches you need to level out before repainting. Now if an alloy wheel has really deep gouges, you cannot just grind and feather that out because it goes too deep. We have equipment that puts aluminum back into the gouge so it can be repaired and flattened. That is the part most people do not know is even possible. Got a wheel you were told to replace? Drop a photo.

Got asked whether we do a monthly subscription service. Honest answer, we have not added one, and there is a reason. You can get a drive-through wash anywhere. The problem is those are not hand washes. Those spinning brushes hit the side of your car, and they collect dirt from every vehicle that went through before you. Once that material is holding dirt, it is essentially very fine sandpaper spinning against your paint. A little damage every time. In our industry we call the result spider webbing, those fine microfiber scratches you see when you look at a black car in the light. Especially rough on a higher end car. If we ever do a monthly plan, it will have to be a hand wash. Anything else and I am selling you damage on a schedule. Would you use a hand wash membership? Tell me below.

Somebody showed me a video of a kid charging four hundred dollars for a detail and asked if that was steep, and whether kids doing this hurt our business. Honestly, that is how we all started. When you are sixteen you want everybody impressed with your car. I washed mine every single weekend before I went cruising around town trying to pick up girls. You had to have a clean car. That was part of it. So I love seeing kids like that, because it shows they care. Here is the other side. There is a real belief that anybody can just do this because they washed cars as a kid. Washing and wiping down is one thing. A true detail includes buff work, and it is very easy to permanently damage the paint on a vehicle buffing it if you do not know what you are doing. Ever had a detail go wrong? Tell me what happened.

We do detailing, including for dealerships in Houston and Dallas. A used vehicle detail runs two to four hours, and here is where that time goes. Anybody can wipe down the dash. The job is the crevices. Inside the cup holders, inside the center console, the glove box, all the places people never think about. People set a Coke in a cup holder and it drips down. Coffee drips down. That builds up, hardens, turns gummy, and sticks to everything in there. Getting it out takes time and the right equipment. We use steam cleaners with a pressure head that blows it out and heats it up so it dissipates, and then it wipes right out. When we are done, the car is actually clean, not just clean looking. What is living in your cup holders right now? Be honest.

For us it is not just a car. It is your car, and that is the most important thing to you. Young driver came in the other day with a hand-me-down that had a lot of miles on it and a rip down the side of the seat, six or seven inches long. But it was his first car. Best thing that ever happened to him. He was sixteen, could not wait to take a girl on a date, and he did not want her to see that seat. That is why he brought it in. Took us about four hours. We pulled the seat cover off, sewed the rip back together, and put a little dye on it to refresh the seats and make them look clean again. Kid acted like he had a brand new car. That one stuck with me. Got a seat that is torn up? Tell me about it.

Customer came in with a five year old Honda and the headlights had gone yellow. Extremely common, and some manufacturers have a real problem with it. The plastic just deteriorates over time. Everybody assumes that means buying new headlights, and those are hundreds of dollars. On an older high end car like a BMW or a Mercedes, that can run into the thousands. What most people do not realize is that it is the outer layer. We treat that layer, take the yellowed discolored plastic off, and retreat it with a chemical that brings the clarity back. Your lights work the way they are supposed to work again, you can actually see at night, and it is a third of the cost of replacing them, if not less. Got yellow headlights? Drop a photo below.

We had a hailstorm hit the south part of Houston a couple of months ago, and here is exactly how that process works. First thing, call your insurance company and get a claim started. They will request a quote for repairs. Bring the vehicle to us and we put together the full repair cost quote for them. They schedule the repairs and often send you a check. You bring the car in, we do the work, and you sign the check over to us when we are finished. On the storm cars we worked on, we are talking two to three hundred dents in a single panel. And you notice a hood every single time you get in, because you are looking down it while you drive. Had a customer pick up both his and his wife's cars last week and they looked brand new. Got hail damage sitting on your car? Comment HAIL.

People assume a dent means dropping the car off and losing it for a few days. For a lot of what we do, you can just wait. Typically thirty to forty five minutes for a standard dent. Come in, and as long as we do not have cars in front of you, we get you in and out. That is the part that surprises people the most. They have been driving around with a ding for two years because they assumed it meant a week without their car and a rental. It usually means one coffee and a short wait. Want to know if yours is a wait-on-it job? Tell me what it looks like below.

Walked out of the store the other day to a dent in my front door, about the size of a quarter or a half dollar. Here is what fixing that actually looks like, because most people have never seen it. It is a couple of tools and an hour to an hour and a half of labor. We get in behind the panel and slowly massage the metal back out. We are pushing an area about the size of an ink pen tip at a time, starting at the lowest point of the dent and working our way back out to the higher parts. It was a black car, so it has to be perfect, and black shows everything. Thirty minutes to an hour and a half depending on the size. No paint, no filler, no body shop. Got one in your door right now? Tell me where it is.
