After Helene there were 1.1 million SC residents without power. Trees down everywhere, many roads blocked, power lines down, some rivers flooded causing bridges to be taken out. Power companies and many volunteers are working around the clock to help others and restore power. Gas stations have run out of gas. Grocery stores have been crowded. Everyone is feeling the stress.
This pales by comparison to the catastrophic flooding that was caused in western NC and eastern TN. Communities have been cut off, people are trapped, some are missing, communication has been shut down, the extent of the damage is still being revealed.
Our prayers go out to all of those suffering loss of life and property. We pray for families that are unable to get in touch with their loved ones. We pray for those who rely on electricity for their medical needs. We pray for the medical responders trying to help everyone in need. We pray for those working to restore power and roadways. We pray for the businesses suffering loss of product and income. We pray for those who are feeling the scarcity of food and supplies.
And we pray for the people in and around these communities to be filled with compassion for one another. May we all look to see how we can love our neighbors. May we all find ourselves grateful for the little things that we so often take for granted. May we all have extra grace for each other as we find our way through trying times.
