Deer-related crashes peak in Minnesota during the fall. Stay alert behind the wheel, especially at dawn and dusk when deer are most active.

Here are a few more ways you can reduce your risk:
• Slow down in areas where deer are common.
• Scan the road and the shoulders for deer and watch for their eyes reflecting in your headlights.
• Don’t swerve to avoid a deer. Brake firmly and stay in your lane. Swerving can cause you to lose control or veer into oncoming traffic.
• Buckle up every trip.

If you are involved in a crash, stay in your vehicle and buckled up if you can safely do so. Your vehicle and seat belt provide more protection if another driver hits you.

A little extra caution can help you avoid a crash and get to where you’re going safely.

For those hoping to see the Northern Lights tonight, you will have to dodge some cloud cover that looks to be moving through, although we should have some gaps as well.

Cool tomorrow, but hot on Saturday as sunny skies and gusty southerly winds push us to the 80s.
