How about a lil coffee time tech.
Long before a manifold makes it into the porting room and chips start flying, EVERY manifold is measured and evaluated. This takes time and practice.
In a nutshell, we want the engine combination to accelerate.
Too large, the engines TQ will suffer, too small, the engine will make TQ , then lay over as the RPM's climb.
You can see it on the dyno graph.

Another project we just wrapped up for our long time friend Jason Bennett.
His Dad's SB2 Headed 462 that made 865 HP in previous trim.
We evaluated the cylinder heads and manifold.
We fitted and ported a new M&M manifold for it, made some spacers to use his old manifold for some dyno data.
Because we love to share data, we have 4 different manifolds we are going to try.
2 M&M
1 GM 048 that was previously ported
1 Edelbrock 2866

We maintained the original 2.18 intake valve size, and still made impressive gains.

Ending up with

We have conservative Pipemax prediction attached.
Jason will be heading to " The Red Sled" Cobb Racing Enterprises in a few weeks, lets see how close we get .

We get to hear how our friends did over the weekend.

Bobby Amato Karen Alletto had a goal of a 5.59 timeslip NA.
His previous PB was set in 2024 of 5.645 @ 120 with a 1.21 60 ft.

Bobby went out this weekend and got his timeslip!

Some follow up data/ results from a manifold we just finished.
A customer reached out stating that he had a manifold ported by someone else. Once installed it slowed down.
After going over the engine and vehicle information we determined that his current manifold was " too big"

We discussed different options including using epoxy to "shrink" his manifold.
After some thought, he decided to have us do a whole new manifold from scratch.

The new manifold results, at 3600 ft DA tied his previous best mph which was at 107 ft DA. Also stating that the car has a wheelie problem now.

We want the engine combination to accelerate.
True Manifold porting is matching it to the engine combination and usage.

This is not trashing anyone else post,
This is information, none of us are as smart as all of us.

Morning guys.
Today's post is more of an informational post more than anything.
What actually goes into "porting my cylinder heads"?
How long does it take? What's the turn around time?

We discuss the customers goals, engine combination, cam profile, intended application.

Once we receive your cylinder heads, they are cleaned, disassembled and inspected.
We generally identify most issues here.
We spend hours cleaning and inspecting each component.

Once the cylinder heads are cleaned, the cylinder head is flowed to establish a baseline.

Then the next step is the heart and soul of the port work,
The valve job.

After the valve job, that's when we can start putting the sizes and shapes together.

When we get the shapes and sizes we are looking for, the next step is to cc the chambers to achieve the desired compression.

From there , every component is thoroughly cleaned again for final assembly.

Each valve spring is tested, each valve is checked for straightness and polished like new, every valve is checked for the installed height.

From there they go into a boxed and shipped to the customer.

This process usually takes 6-8 weeks if we don't run into any other issues.

Another Performance Prototyping and Engineering Iron Hide P2E manifold wrapped up.
This one is for a long time friend John Perry .
We also tuned up a set of AFR 235's for this combination.
The goal is to crack 840+.
454 Cubic inches
15.7 compression
Q16 fuel

As always, we exclusively use Killer Carbide Burs to make the chips.
