With the launch of the Integra Type-S coming soon, we thought we could take a walk down memory lane from the Integras first debut in 1986 to the current day and share some historical facts about the icon we know it to be today!
The Integra made a global launch on March 27, 1986. The first generation Integra (1986-1989) became known as the best front wheel drive vehicle by consumers. The first generation had pop-up headlights, giving it a cutting sporty edge standing out from its competitor vehicles. The first drive train was a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine with 113 horsepower 99 lb-ft of torque!
The second generation Integra (1990-1993) moved with the times and brought updates such as power sunroofs, power locks, and leather interior. (offered in the GS model) In 1992, the Acura introduced the Integra GS-R. The next high performance vehicle next to the NSX to feature VTEC.
From 1986 to 1993, Acura improved the drive train and the second generation has a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine, 130 horsepower, and 121 lb-ft of torque! The second generation also brings options for a manual or automatic transmission.
Redesigned all around, the third generation (1994-2001) of the Integra brings a new style and performance. The new design and style of the Integra brings an offering of not only the manual anjd automatic transmission, but was then offered as a sedan offering the sporty cutting edge comfort with performance for consumers. (GS-R models) The Integra Type-R launched in the Japanese market in 1995 and was then launched in the USA in 1997 in Championship White. Aside from the redesign, improvements brought to the third generation were 142 horsepower and 127 lb-ft of torque while keeping the 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine.
Renamed and re-branded in its fourth generation (2002-2006), the Integra became better known as the RSX for the United States market. A 3-door hatchback, redesigned for its re-brand, now features a 2.0 liter VTEC inline 4 cylinder engine, VTC cam phasing technology, 160 horsepower, and 141 lb-ft of torque. The RSX was discontinued in 2006.
Brought back in 2023 for its fifth generation, the Integra historically holds the same performance of its previous generations - but improved! With styling and technology that appeals to the consumer that was not once previously offered by its predecessors. The return of the Integra brings Acura enthusiasts a four door sedan with a 1.5 liter turbocharged engine, 200 horsepower, and 192 lb-ft of torque.
