One of the coolest parts of what we do is getting the opportunity to prep some truly extraordinary motorcycles for our clients. And every once in a while, something rolls into the shop that makes pretty much everyone stop what they’re doing and take a closer look.

This is one of those motorcycles.

Meet the Aprilia X-GP 250TH, an ultra-exclusive, track-only machine developed by Aprilia Racing to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States. Only 30 examples were produced, and underneath that Stars and Stripes bodywork is some seriously exotic hardware.

Based on the RSV4 platform, its 1,099cc V4 has been developed to produce an incredible 240 horsepower at 13,750 rpm, while the entire motorcycle weighs just 165 kg (about 364 lbs.) dry. It gets an SC-Project titanium MotoGP-style exhaust, STM dry clutch, Aprilia Racing APX electronics with GPS, forged magnesium Marchesini wheels, Öhlins racing suspension and full carbon-fiber bodywork with aerodynamics derived from Aprilia’s MotoGP program.

And then there are the brakes. The X 250TH uses a Brembo carbon-carbon braking system with 340mm carbon discs in a MotoGP configuration—technology normally associated with the highest levels of motorcycle racing.

This isn’t simply a special-edition RSV4. It’s essentially a piece of Aprilia Racing engineering made available to a very small number of private owners, and getting the chance to prepare one for a client is exactly the kind of thing that reminds us how fortunate we are to work around motorcycles every day.
