Erie Brush continues to partner with the Zoo as they work to provide shelter and rehabilitation to baby sea turtles.

These hatchlings were brought to Brevard Zoo after their nest was disturbed and they hatched too early. As premature turtles, they needed additional time to finish developing and regain their strength.

In the wild, baby sea turtles—especially species like loggerheads and green turtles—spend the early part of their lives floating in mats of Sargassum, a type of brown seaweed found in the open ocean. These mats act as a natural nursery, providing shelter and food while protecting the hatchlings from predators and harsh conditions.

At Brevard Zoo caregivers use our Soft Cloth material to create handmade "mitter mats" which mimics the protective environment of Sargassum while the turtles recover and grow stronger in rehabilitation.
