Let's talk about the little metal pieces doing big work under your boat.

What they are: Sacrificial anodes (often called zincs) attached to your hull, prop, and shaft. Their whole job is to corrode first, so your boat's metal parts don't have to.

Why they matter: No anode, or a worn-out one, and that corrosion goes straight for your prop, shaft, and other expensive underwater hardware instead.

How to tell they need replacing: If more than 50% of the anode is gone, it's time.

How often: This depends on your boat, your marina, and the water you're in, but a check every season (at minimum) keeps you ahead of it.

The easy part? We check and replace them underwater, no haul-out required.

ATTENTION LOOPERS! 🚨 This is what a completely eaten-away anode looks like, and it's exactly why we check these before you head down the river.

Chicago is one of your last easy stops for underwater service. Once you're past us and working through the lock and river systems, dive services get few and far between, and a worn anode left unchecked can turn into a much bigger (and more expensive) problem miles from the nearest diver.
