While we specialize in Mercury High Performance outboard engines, we service/maintain all Mercury outboards. Formed by Lee Sanderson, the company was originally know as Sanderson Propeller and Auto Service. The shop on Rt5 was split down the middle with automotive service and repair on one side and the roots of propeller repair growing in the other. In 1987 the automotive side of the business was
sold to focus full time on propeller repair and sales. They moved to a new location right on the James River at Kingsland Reach Marina. Lee and his wife Donna formed a large customer base over the next couple years, many who are still customers today.
1990 brought the addition of an employee named Robert(Robbie) Patterson, the first long term employee of the company. 4 years later the decision was made to further expand the company, picking up Allison Boats and becoming a Mercury Outboard dealer. Very small at first, Lee was doing this work out of his garage at home after hours. In 1999 there was no stopping it. The demand for service had outgrown the room that was available to do it in. A new location was found in Chester, VA. The same location we are still at today. The "prop shop" that they had been working out of for the last 12 years was lifted onto a large trailer, hauled over the river and set down behind a large 3 bay building which was now the home of Sanderson Marine. Two years later, the propeller side of the business was taken over by Robbie which allowed Lee to focus solely on the service/repair side of the business. Robbie later changed the name of his shop to Propeller Dynamics. More work meant more employees. There were a handful of talented technicians that help build the company to what it is today. Times change, and people come and go, but we are lucky to have Charles Propst with us today! He is a Mercury Master Tech and has been in the marine industry for over 30 years. There were a few change ups in boat lines through the years, but Allison has and hopefully always will remain with us. Our focus was always high performance boating, and in that area, there is no boat manufacturer that compares to Allison Ultra Performance Boats!
