Just the other day, our work took us across the bay to Cape Charles to assist with a 62' custom sailing yacht passing through the area. One of the great things about working on the Chesapeake is the steady flow of boats traveling north and south, and we’re always glad to help when something below the waterline needs attention along the way!

This month marks seven years of Intracoastal Diving and Hull Services. Over that time, the work has taken us all over the East Coast and introduced us to some incredible people along the way. Mark often says the best part of the job is the people he gets to meet and work for from dock to dock. We’re grateful for the support that has gotten us this far and looking forward to what the years ahead hold!

can tell a blue crab’s gender just by looking at the underside? Males have a narrow, T-shaped apron (often compared to the Washington Monument) and blue-tipped claws. Females have a wide, rounded apron shaped more like the Capitol dome and red-tipped claws.

We recently recovered a sunken pontoon that had settled deep into the mud. One side of the vessel was buried about two feet down, which meant breaking the suction seal before we could begin floating it. Once free, we worked the boat back up into the client’s lift after making a few modifications so it could properly drain and be pumped out.

: Propeller Polishing

Intracoastal Diving provides professional underwater propeller cleaning and polishing for private vessels and commercial fleets. We remove marine growth, scale, and surface fouling to restore smooth blade surfaces and improve propulsion efficiency.

Using hydraulic-powered underwater polishing equipment, our team performs controlled polishing without altering blade geometry. This service is often used to address performance loss, vibration, and increased fuel consumption caused by fouling, and it can be completed as a standalone service or combined with hull cleaning and inspection.

A recent project had us removing heavy line fouling from a boat’s prop. Entanglements like this can bring operations to a halt, so quick response and efficient removal make all the difference. Our team was able to get in, clear the obstruction, and help the vessel get back to work without extended downtime.

: Shallow Water Commercial Diving

Intracoastal Diving provides professional shallow water commercial diving services throughout Hampton Roads and the Mid-Atlantic, supporting marine construction, working vessels, industrial facilities, and waterfront infrastructure.

Our operations focus primarily on shallow environments, typically around 20 feet and above, where efficiency and rapid deployment help minimize downtime. This range covers the majority of inspection, maintenance, and emergency needs for active commercial assets without the delays associated with deeper-water operations.

Services include underwater inspections, line-fouling removal, hull and structural repairs, underwater patching, cofferdam installation, and after-hours response. We frequently integrate these services with prop work, hull cleaning, cutting, and salvage to provide a coordinated, single-source solution.

: Salvage & Sunken Vessel Recovery

When a vessel goes down, timing is critical to its recovery. Intracoastal Diving provides rapid-response salvage and recovery support throughout Hampton Roads and the Mid-Atlantic for vessels of varying size and complexity, when conditions allow.

Our team utilizes lift bags, high-capacity pumps, and controlled underwater rigging systems to stabilize, dewater, and recover partially or fully submerged vessels. We also coordinate directly with owners, marinas, shipyards, and insurance companies during time-sensitive situations to keep the recovery process moving.
