Chesaning Union Schools is proud to share an exciting update from the Michigan SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference in Grand Rapids!

Oliver Keck brought home a 1st place finish in Related Technical Math—an incredible accomplishment.

Pierce VanHaaren also had an outstanding showing, earning the Silver Medal in Automotive Collision Repair, along with over $2,000 in scholarships for tools and equipment to support his future in the industry.

Both students competed against the best in the state, demonstrating not only technical excellence but also professionalism and commitment to their craft. Their achievements highlight the strength of our Career and Technical Education programs and the bright futures ahead for our students.

Hands-On Learning Meets Real World Recycling!

Mr. Chrysler’s shop classes have been hard at work separating aluminum, copper, and electric motors. The students are learning how to properly dismantle and identify different types of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

This hands-on training not only teaches valuable skills but also supports their program in a sustainable way! Proceeds from the scrap metal collected are recycled through Resourceful Recycling, and the funds go right back into the classroom to enhance tools, equipment, and student projects.

We’re proud to partner with our local schools to help turn waste into opportunity and to inspire the next generation of recyclers, innovators, and problem-solvers. 🌍💪

20 years of Skills USA and so many awesome students! I thought it would be fun to share some photos from previous competitions. Many of these went on to successful and rewarding careers in the Collision Industry!

Chesaning Autotomotive students brought home two silver medals and one gold medal this weekend from the Skills USA Competition in Grand Rapids. Senior Jacob Galloway took second place in Automotive Refinishing winning a paint gun and $7500 scholarship. Brothers Eli and Oliver Keck took 1st and 2nd place in Related Technical Math. Eli brought home the gold medal and will now be representing CHS and the State of Michigan at the National Skills USA Competition this June in Atlanta. Congratulations to all competitors! You made CHS proud!

This was the 20th year that I have been a part of Skills USA. It is such an amazing experience for all of those involved. This was what the set up looked like for this years Collision Repair ,Damage Analysis and Refinishing Competition in Grand Rapids. As always, Ge**er Collision were gracious hosts.
