Your generator is supposed to be there
when you need it most.

These warning signs say otherwise:

✗ Starts but shuts off within minutes
Usually a fuel or carburetor issue.
Running rough = something's restricting flow.

✗ Runs but produces no power output
The engine works fine, but the generator
itself isn't generating. Could be the
windings, the AVR, or a tripped breaker.

✗ Excessive smoke or burning smell
Stop using it immediately. Could be oil
overfill, a failing component, or worse.

✗ Won't start at all, dead silence
Check the basics first: fuel level, oil
level, battery charge. If those check out,
it's time for a real diagnosis.

Here's what to watch for:

01: Grinding or scraping noise when moving
That's metal fighting metal. Not normal.

02: Uneven movement, one side lags behind
Usually points to motor or gear wear on
one side of the mechanism.

03: Visible gaps when fully extended
Seals are compromised. Water and pests
can get in.

04: Slide stops mid-travel or won't move
Could be electrical, mechanical, or both.
Don't force it.

Caught early, most slide issues are a
quick, affordable fix.

Before you hit the road this season —
run this check first.

Most roadside breakdowns were already there
before the trip started.

🔲 Roof
Walk it. Look for bubbling, cracking or lifted seams.

🔲 Tires
Check pressure AND look for sidewall cracking.
Age matters more than tread on RV tires.

🔲 Propane
Smell-check all connections. Test your detectors.

🔲 Water System
Run all taps. Check under sinks for moisture.

🔲 Electrical
Test every outlet. Check battery voltage.
Look for corrosion on terminals.

🔲 Slides
Run them in and out. Listen for grinding.
Watch for uneven travel.

🔲 AC & Heat
Run both systems before you need them in the field.

Your RV is trying to tell you something.

Most people ignore it.

🔴 Lights flickering or dimming
→ Loose connection or dying battery bank

🔴 Breaker keeps tripping
→ Something is drawing more power than it should.
Don't just reset it.

🔴 Shore power works but battery won't hold charge
→ Converter or charger issue. Dead battery cells.

🔴 Some outlets work but not others
→ Check your GFCI outlets first. One tripped GFCI
can kill multiple outlets throughout the RV.

🔴 Everything dead with no power source
→ Check your main disconnect switch and battery
terminals for corrosion.

⚠️ The most dangerous one:
Burning smell with no visible source.
That's a wiring issue. Stop using power.
Get it looked at immediately.

RV electrical isn't like house electrical.
It's 12v DC AND 120v AC — two systems
that interact. You need someone who
understands both.

Most RV roof repairs fail because of one thing.

The wrong sealant was used.
Or the right sealant was applied over dirt.

Here's the truth nobody tells you when
they're selling you a repair:

✗ Lap sealant applied over old cracked sealant
= failure within one season

✗ Butyl tape used where self-leveling sealant
is needed = instant water path

✗ Roof cleaned with the wrong product
= poor adhesion = peeling within months

✗ One coat when two are required
= it looks fixed but isn't

A proper RV roof repair means:
→ Cleaning the surface completely
→ Removing all old failed material
→ Priming where required
→ Using the RIGHT product for YOUR roof type

Rubber, fiberglass and aluminum roofs are
not all the same. Your sealant shouldn't be either.

Ask your tech what sealant they're using and why.
If they can't answer clearly, find someone who can.

Your RV water pump is running, you can hear it, but nothing's coming out of the tap.

Here's what's actually going on:

✅ Check 1: Is your fresh water tank empty?
Sounds obvious. You'd be surprised.

✅ Check 2: Is the pump strainer clogged?
Small screen near the pump inlet. Debris kills flow.

✅ Check 3: Is there a leak in the line?
If the pump runs constantly without shutting off
water is escaping somewhere in your system.

✅ Check 4: Is the pump getting power?
Check your 12v fuse panel for the pump fuse.

⚠️ The biggest warning sign most people miss:
If your pump cycles on and off rapidly when all
taps are closed, that's a leak. Water is escaping
somewhere right now.

That's the one you want to catch early.
