With college football season coming up the words "pads" and "shoes" might conjure certain imagery for most people (and AI), but for an auto technician they are instantly related to the vehicle brake system. Pads are the friction material used with disc brakes (seen on the left lower part of the image) and shoes are the friction material used with drum brakes (seen on the right lower side of the image). There are four different material types: organic, semi-metallic, ceramic and metallic. When it comes time for replacing the friction material in your brakes we'll follow the manufacturer's recommended specs to ensure you get the exact stopping power, heat resistance, and durability your vehicle needs.

Whether you're gearing up for fall tailgates, road trips, or the daily commute, don't let worn brakes bench your vehicle!

🏈 Pro Tip: If you hear squealing, feel a soft pedal, or notice it's taking longer to come to a complete stop, it’s time to call a timeout and get your system inspected.

Drop by the shop before kickoff so you can hit the road with complete confidence this season! 🚘💨

Does your car AC smell like a wet dog after monsoon humidity? ⛈️😷

In hot, humid stretches—especially during Arizona summers combined with monsoons—moisture and organic debris can build up in your vehicle’s AC system. That dampness can lead to musty/mold-like odors that you notice when you turn the fan or AC on.

Here are the common factors:

Moisture in the HVAC system: When the system gets wet and doesn’t fully dry out, it can encourage odor-causing buildup on/around the evaporator and related components.
Dirty intake + cabin air filter: Desert dust, leaves/plant debris, and general grime can load the cabin filter and intake area—then odors linger and air quality suffers.
AC running in humidity: Once there’s growth/odor source in the system, turning on the fan/AC can spread that smell through the vents.

Plus, a clogged cabin air filter can also reduce airflow, making the AC less efficient and the cabin feel like it never cools down quite right.

💡 AZ Pro-Tip: If you’re noticing musty smells during monsoon season, check the cabin air filter and have the AC system inspected/cleaned as needed—don’t wait until the winter tune-up.

Stop by or call us to get your cabin air filter checked along with other maintenance services. 🛠️

How can the hot AZ sun affect your vehicle? One area of concern is the cooling system which keeps your engine within normal operating temperature. Ambient temps over 110°F push your cooling system to run hotter and increases pressure during thermal expansion. Over time, if the system can’t maintain proper pressure—or if the radiator/overflow cap or venting system isn’t holding correctly—coolant can be forced into the overflow/vent path, and you may see the reservoir level drop without a noticeable driveway puddle. If your coolant is old, deposits and corrosion can further reduce heat-transfer efficiency, which can worsen overheating risk.

🧪 Brittle Plastic & Rubber: Arizona heat bakes rubber hoses and plastic radiator tanks until they weaken. Under pressure, small seepage can leave only minor residue near hose connections, plastic seams, or the filler neck rather than a big leak you can easily spot.

💡 Arizona Pro-Tip: NEVER open the radiator or reservoir cap on a hot engine—dropping system pressure instantly can cause superheated fluid to boil over and burn you. Always check levels at the clear plastic reservoir when the engine is completely cold (like overnight). If you spot white, chalky residue near hose clamps, plastic seams, or the filler neck, that can indicate dried coolant from a small leak or cap/overflow seep.

Drop by or give us a call if your temp gauge is creeping higher than usual—don’t let a $20 hose turn into a $3,000 blown head gasket! 🛠️
