For anyone interested: my parts markup is currently 20% however u have 2 bare couple things in mind: I get them at a professional price (lower then consumer, so it’s a mark up from there, not your price), I have to take my time to track and order your parts from various sources, and I always I’m okay with you providing your own part. I want you to be okay and taken care of and I understand financial struggles. The suggested retail price is astronomically above my prices, and to be honest a lot of the time I just make things up as I go thinking of how you and I can both be ok: factors: if I think this person does not have a lot of money and is struggling, if I don’t have a lot of money and am struggling, how far I have to drive to get the part/how many trips I have to make. I’m trying to be fair, I’m not perfect but I’m trying to learn, and treat other people with the love that God treats me with even tho I would think I’m unsufferable. It’s a learning curve to find out how to be fair but I’m trying and also I was taught by corrupt dealerships and other places, not an excuse but also I nvr charged like they did. So if you’re mad at me for a mark up don’t be cause I explained everything here and you can get your own part and only pay me for labor. That’s what I’ve got.

*Germany is Europe, my bad, i didnt get a proper education
I don’t think much of German and European design. American and Japanese engines r the best. But new American stuff sucks, guess they have to reinvent the wheel, or just has to do with emissions and politics and lies, or they have become stupider. Fuel injection good, variable valve timing and lift good but u have more systems that can go wrong. Direct injection has its benefits but also creates intake valve problems, and then they add extra injectors, hey there r engines that have two sets of spark plugs. But like come on. Rubber oil pump drive belts submerged in engine oil, what could go wrong? They have picked the internal combustion engine apart and made it worse. Guess they get paid for having new ideas. It’s crazy.

3.6 Chrysler pentastar. Groove partially into firing ring, reducing sealing surface. I believe this was a manufacturer defect and not something that happened naturally. Why this customer head gasket blew, and at a low mileage. Couple other issues but now it’s got to go to the machine shop, this is why an estimate is an estimate cause you don’t know what you’re going to find. Was an in vehicle job, now this some more involved and will probably assemble everything outside of vehicle at this point then drop it back in.

Sad diagnosis but it’s better to have the answer. Then be in the dark. Get rid of your dex cool, put something better in there.

I think one of the worst overlooked maintenance items as far as fluids second to consistent oil change is coolant. It becomes contaminated and corrosive. Eats away at metal head gaskets, builds deposits that clog and can cause overheating and further damage to engine. In extreme cases surfaces can be so badly damaged from corrosion that it’s better to scrap the core (engine block and or cylinder head) rather than attempting repair. But then again, there are so many poorly designed engines out there that will fail for another reason before old contaminated coolant even becomes a factor, so I guess it depends on what you have. If you have a great engine that has a good life expectancy, maybe go find a place that does coolant system services. You really need a machine to vacuum in all out and run new stuff in, I don’t think anyone is gonna drain radiator, and attemp to get all the coolant out of the block and other places like heater core. Just my opinion backed up by real world scenarios. However, I’ve heard some say coolant don’t go bad, it just gets dirty, maybe. Is running in through a filter just as good as new? I don’t think so but I’m not a scientist in a lab so I don’t know. At any rate a coolant filter would probably benefit any vehicle. Probably best to have coolant changed every 5 yrs or so, or by mileage. The dealerships go a bit overboard in scheduled maintenance in my opinion. It’s especially bad when youve paid to do engine flushes injector services and brake fluid at 30k maybe trans fluid at 50 or 60 then at 80k you have a rod knock and the engines no good after doing all the recommended maintenance diligently, because it’s a bad motor to start with. Meanwhile a gm 4.3 from 90s to mid 2000s is running strong, clean and great compression with near 300k not saying all of them do that, there are lemons but it’s crazy. Really good idea to research your power train before buying a vehicle, great that you like it but what about what powers that vehicle, and you end up investing your self into something that is going to let you down and it does not seem fair.
