The Legend !
In 1992, Michael A. Conny was just 24 years old, working out of a barn on his family farm in Alliance, Ohio. He didn’t come from wealth, and he didn’t have a factory. What he did have was a welder, a vision, and a relentless drive.
Conny started repairing trailers and building small custom orders, one at a time. He poured everything back into the business, often working long days and nights, fueled by the belief that he could build trailers stronger, lighter, and better than anyone else.
Word spread. Truckers and fleets noticed the quality, and demand started to climb. Conny named his company MAC Trailer (after his initials), and by the mid-1990s he was producing his first full lines of dump trailers, flatbeds, and transfer trailers.
The growth was rapid. From a barn in Ohio, Conny expanded into a true manufacturing operation. By the 2000s, MAC Trailer was producing thousands of units per year, with an emphasis on innovation and customization. Customers who wanted a trailer designed to fit their exact needs came to MAC.
Today, MAC Trailer is the largest privately owned custom trailer manufacturer in the United States, with over 1 million square feet of manufacturing space and thousands of employees across multiple facilities. They produce dump trailers, flatbeds, tank trailers, and transfer trailers used by some of the biggest fleets in North America.
As for Michael Conny? He’s built not just a company but a fortune. His personal net worth is estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars, and his story is often cited as one of the great modern examples of building an empire from nothing.
Despite the wealth, Conny remains closely tied to his roots. He’s still heavily involved in MAC Trailer and is known for investing in his community, supporting local causes, and staying visible on the ground at the company’s Ohio headquarters.
