Zachary "Zora" Arkus-Duntov, renowned as the “Father of the Corvette,” made history on this day 70 years ago. Duntov took a 1956 Chevrolet Corvette, when the nameplate was just three model years old, and set it up for stock car racing. He then took the V8-powered Corvette to the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb on September 7, 1955, near Colorado Springs, Colorado. With that eight-cylinder setup, he set a stock car record, completing the climb in 17:23.05.
