You see the sleek app, the transparent pricing promise, the doorstep delivery. Online car retailers have built a reputation for transparent, stress-free buying. Most buyers assume that experience comes with a competitive price.

New data just came out that might surprise you.

A recent analysis found that Carvana's new-car stores priced multiple models thousands of dollars above nearby franchised competitors. The Ram 2500 averaged $4,533 more than the local market. The Ram 1500 averaged $3,449 more. Despite that, buyers showed up and purchased at nearly twice the rate of competing stores.

A no-haggle price is not the same as a good price. It is a fixed price. Buyers are reading the absence of negotiation as proof of a fair deal. The data tells a different story.

You do not have to choose between a straightforward process and a deal that has actually been negotiated on your behalf. That is exactly what a licensed auto broker provides.

A client came to us already familiar with the Costco Auto Program. They had considered it because of Costco's reputation as a value buy. But as they looked closer, they started questioning the gaps. What happened to their existing vehicle? Who was evaluating the lease versus purchase decision? What about the finance office? The more they looked, the more they realized the program answered one question and left the rest to them.

They were also still deciding on the make, leaning toward a Volvo but not fully committed. We helped them work through the options and confirm it was the right fit. Then we ran lease versus purchase. The lease was more favorable given current manufacturer programs and their circumstances.

There was also a Costco manufacturer incentive available on the Volvo. Most buyers assume the manufacturer incentive is tied to going through the program. Often it is not. We applied it as part of a fully structured deal.

What they said afterward captured it well. For the first time in a car purchase, they felt like someone was actually working for them, from the first conversation to the day they drove away.

A good car price doesn't necessarily mean you got a good deal.

The Costco Auto Program is a great example.

Costco members can get a prearranged price through participating dealers, which can make the process feel simpler. But there’s an important distinction: the program handles the vehicle price, not the entire transaction.

It doesn’t help you decide which vehicle is the best fit, whether leasing or financing makes more sense, which incentives are most valuable, or how to structure your trade-in. And once you’re at the dealership, the finance office is still the finance office. Add-ons, financing terms, and other products aren’t being evaluated on your behalf.

That’s not a criticism of Costco. It’s simply what the program is designed to do.

And here’s something many Costco members don’t realize:

The Costco manufacturer incentive and the Costco Auto Program are two separate things.

You may be able to access the manufacturer incentive without using the Costco Auto Program, including through a licensed auto broker.

At CarOracle, we represent the buyer exclusively. We help evaluate the vehicle, structure the transaction, negotiate the deal, and navigate the process from start to finish.

Because the price of the car is only one part of the deal.

Some clients come to us convinced the car they want does not exist. Sometimes they are almost right.

A client in Northern California wanted a 2027 Toyota Land Cruiser in black on black. One of the most sought-after color combinations on one of the most popular vehicles in the market right now. There was not a single visible unit anywhere in California.

What we found was a vehicle that had not yet left the factory in Japan, not visible to the general public and not yet in any dealer pipeline. We sourced and secured it for our client before it ever left Japan.

Here is what the client sent us:

"...the car is great and so was the experience of purchasing the vehicle through Car Oracle."

The dream car existed. It just took the right connections to find it.

Finding the exact vehicle you want takes more than a search bar.

What shows up on a manufacturer's configurator is what the factory can produce. What is actually available in the market right now is far more specific. The right combination might exist at a dealer in another part of California. It might be on allocation. Some manufacturers offer special orders.* And sometimes the combination simply does not exist anywhere in the market right now. That is more common than most buyers realize.

A California-licensed auto broker who works regularly with dealer partners across the state brings something a buyer simply cannot replicate on their own: visibility into what is actually moving through the market, established relationships to secure those hard to find units, and the expertise to pursue every channel so you do not have to.

Want to expand your choices and your potential for a better deal? Start with flexibility on color and options. A buyer who can work with a few combinations gives us significantly more to work with on their behalf.

We help every client think through what is truly non-negotiable versus what is preference, because that distinction changes what is possible.

*Special order availability, timing, and eligibility vary by manufacturer.

California just launched a new statewide EV incentive program. If you are considering an electric vehicle this year, this is worth paying attention to.

The MyFirstEV rebate is live now and applies at point of sale. No application. No waiting for a check. The discount comes off the purchase price or lease at the time of signing.

New EVs with an MSRP of $50,000 or under qualify for $3,500 off. Qualifying manufacturer certified pre-owned EVs priced at $25,000 or under qualify for $1,750 off.

CarOracle stays current on every state and manufacturer incentive program. We know how these programs work, what the eligibility requirements mean in practice, and how to structure a deal to take full advantage of what is available. If you are considering an EV and want to make sure you are not leaving money on the table, reach out before you go to the dealership.

CarOracle is a California-licensed auto broker. We represent you, the buyer!

Most people calculate the cost of buying a car in dollars. Almost nobody calculates it in time.

The average car buying process takes 15 or more hours. Research, comparisons, dealer visits, negotiations, financing. For a senior professional earning $150 per hour, that is $2,250 in time before the deal even starts.

And that does not include the stress of navigating a process that the person sitting across from you does every single day while you do it once every few years.

CarOracle handles the entire process on your behalf. Most clients spend fewer than 90 minutes of their own time from first conversation to delivery.

The question is not whether you can do it yourself. It is whether 15 hours of your time is where you want to spend it.

A client called us after spending thousands in repairs on a used vehicle he thought was fully certified.

The certification was a 90-day warranty. Backed by the retailer, not the manufacturer.

We walked him through the difference. Then helped him into a Mazda CPO vehicle. Full manufacturer backing, OEM parts, coverage at any franchised Mazda dealer nationwide.

One thing he did not expect: Mazda was offering 2.99% financing on CPO vehicles through Mazda Financial Services. That rate only exists on manufacturer certified units.

The Mazda CPO cost a little more. The warranty was not a comparison.

Not all certified used vehicles are the same. That word covers a lot of ground, and the difference between what it means at a manufacturer dealership versus an independent retailer is significant.

A manufacturer CPO program runs through franchised dealers using the manufacturer's own inspection standards. The warranty is backed by the company that built the car. Covered repairs use OEM parts and can be handled at any franchised dealer nationwide. The vehicle has to meet strict age and mileage requirements just to qualify.

A third party certification is backed by whoever sold you the car. Coverage periods vary widely and are often much shorter. Parts used in repairs may not be original manufacturer parts. If something goes wrong, your warranty is only as strong as the company standing behind it.

Both call themselves certified. The backing behind that certification is a very different thing.

A manufacturer CPO vehicle typically costs a little more. That difference buys you something worth paying for.

A dealer brought us a competitive offer for a client this week. Two options on the same vehicle.
Option A: 0% APR through the manufacturer plus a $1,000 rebate.
Option B: $7,000 cash off MSRP financed at 6.39% over 72 months.
Competitive offer. But we still needed to determine which option was actually in our client's best interest. So we ran the numbers.
The $7,000 rebate sounds great until you factor in $7,201 in interest paid over the life of the loan. Net benefit on Option B: negative $201.
Option A: $1,000 rebate, $0 interest. Net benefit: positive $1,000.
The 0% financing won by $1,201.
A good offer still needs to be fine tuned. That is the difference between a deal that looks right and one that actually is.
Calculated before tax, title, license, and fees. Individual results vary based on credit tier, loan term, and applicable incentives.
