Two things under your hood age in different ways. A belt tends to announce itself: squealing is the tell-tale sign, and a visual check will show the cracks as it ages. Hoses deteriorate over time too, and there are more of them than most people expect, a fuel hose, a radiator hose, a power steering hose and a heater hose. If one bursts, depending which, the engine can overheat, and that is where the real damage starts. Worth having both checked at your next service rather than waiting for a symptom.
