The Port of Corpus Christi has become the largest crude oil export hub in the United States, moving more than 2 million barrels per day after Congress lifted the export ban in 2015.

Pipeline capacity is re-emerging as a constraint on growth, with Port CEO Kent Britton warning that significantly expanding exports will require additional takeaway infrastructure.

Natural gas is the next frontier — the U.S. is the world’s largest LNG exporter, and Corpus Christi already hosts a major LNG facility with more projects in development.

The Port of Corpus Christi now exports more than 2 million barrels of crude per day. Here's how the shale revolution turned a regional hub into a global energy gateway.

This Day in History | 1431 | Joan of Arc is burned at the stake for heresy

*On May 30, 1431, at Rouen in English-controlled Normandy, Joan of Arc, the peasant girl who became the savior of France, is burned at the stake for heresy.

Joan was born in 1412, the daughter of a tenant farmer at Domremy, on the borders of the duchies of Bar and Lorraine. In 1415, the Hundred Years War between England and France entered a crucial phase when the young King Henry V of England invaded France and won a series of decisive victories against the forces of King Charles VI. By the time of Henry’s death in August 1422, the English and their French-Burgundian allies controlled Aquitaine and most of northern France, including Paris. Charles VI, long incapacitated, died one month later, and his son, Charles, regent from 1418, prepared to take the throne. However, Reims, the traditional city of French coronation, was held by the Anglo-Burgundians, and the Dauphin (heir apparent to the French throne) remained uncrowned. Meanwhile, King Henry VI of England, the infant son of Henry V and Catherine of Valois, the daughter of Charles VI, was proclaimed king of France by the English.

19-year-old Joan of Arc, the peasant girl who became the savior of France, is burned at the stake for heresy.

WHY IS THE NATIONAL DEBT SO HIGH?

America’s growing debt is the result of simple math — each year, there is a mismatch between spending and revenues.

When the federal government spends more than it takes in, it has to borrow money to cover that annual deficit. And each year’s deficit adds to our growing national debt.

Historically, the largest deficits were caused by increased spending during national emergencies such as major wars or the Great Depression.

Today, deficits are caused mainly by predictable structural factors: our aging baby-boom generation, rising healthcare costs, higher interest rates, and a tax system that does not bring in enough money to pay for what the government has promised its citizens.

Moving forward, it will be critical for America’s leaders to address our rising drivers…..

What is the national debt? Check our debt clock for the latest numbers and learn about the causes of our high and rising debt.
