Sunday Night Thunder Returns with Exciting Action at Double X Speedway

Double X Speedway
California, MO
June 14, 2026
By: Dean Reichel

After two consecutive weeks of rainouts, the skies finally cooperated Sunday night as Double X Speedway roared back to life for Week #7 of the 2026 Sunday Night Thunder season. While the car count may have been a bit lighter than anticipated, the action on the quarter-mile clay oval certainly made up for it as drivers put on an entertaining show for the loyal fans who joined us in the grandstands.
The extended break caused by Mother Nature left racers and fans alike eager to get back to the track, and from the first green flag of the evening to the final checkered flag, the racing was as good as could be hoped for with the inconsistent weather of the past week. The track had a โ€œJekyll and Hydeโ€ character to it with turns one and two being dry due to the sun and wind and turns three and four having more moisture and grip. Drivers were challenged to find the balance in their cars to successfully navigate the racing surface.
As always, none of this would be possible without the continued support of our dedicated drivers, race teams, sponsors, and fans. Whether you're turning wrenches in the pits, competing on the racetrack, helping behind the scenes, or cheering from the grandstands, your commitment helps keep the tradition of Sunday Night Thunder alive in Central Missouri. We sincerely thank each of you for your support throughout the 2026 season.

Feature Recaps:

B Modifieds- With Terry Schultz and Tyler Potter on the front row, it would be a battle to the bottom of turn one. With Schultz coming out in the lead Potter would try to go lower and when that didnโ€™t prove to gain an advantage, he began searching for grip higher up the track. After the opening few laps, Potter was able to take the momentum of the high line around Schultz in turns three and four and secure the top spot. For the next ten laps no one was able to challenge Potter as he picked up feature win number five at Double X in 2026.

Super Stocks- Derek Henson and Ryan Shikles brought the field to green with Henson moving to the lead early. While racing close on the opening lap in turn four, Shikles would suffer a front end part failure and would end his feature early against the outside wall in turn four. On the restart Henson would open a four car length lead with Steve Beach and Darin Porter giving chase. Porter would move into second and by trying different lines almost lap after lap would pull to the rear bumper of the leader. A late caution setting up a three-lap closure to the event would see Porter edge alongside the leader but the tricky turn four would allow Henson to secure the checkered flag for the evening.

360 Winged Sprint Cars- Marshall, MO drivers Miles Paulus and Ben Brown would pace the field with Brown moving out front early. The car on the move early was Broc Elliott in his first visit to Double X in 2026, taking the lead from Brown on lap three and he set the pace until lap ten when he could no longer hold off the hard charging 77 machine of Jack Wagner. Wagner would click off the remaining fifteen laps to pick up the win with Elliott claiming a strong second place.
