Still waiting for the glass shop to get my new window in. Fortunately I still have time before the crown meeting in September that I promised to take the truck to.

Just an average day, in an average city, on a take your howitzer to school day!

I took the HUMVE and howitzer for the local high school ROTC to use for recruiting. On my way to the school, I saw some kids walking and offered them a ride. They are probably still talking about it!

It turns out I also need a window crank handle for the CPT door. I may need to find two of each handle to have a matched set.

This morning I got up early (I am retired and like to sleep in), and drove the truck about 20 miles to the closest glass shop to get the new window made.

They replaced the broken and missing window lace/track in the door. Then made a 1/4 laminated glass window. When they rolled the new window up, it cracked at the top.

They are now ordering me a 3/16 tempered glass window to put into the truck. It will be about 2-3 weeks for the new window to arrive.

Still plenty of time before the Sep crown gathering in Ventura.

Yesterday I pulled the CPT door apart on preparation of replacing the broken window. To my amazement the inner door handle was disconnected.

It appears the rod was still inside the door, I just need to figure out how to hook it up and make it work.

I also found the bottom part of the window resting on two wooden blocks at the bottom of the door, not connected to the cranking system.

Checking the window crank, it appears to be working properly. So now I need to figure out how to connect the bottom window bar to the window crank mechanism.

So once again I am not surprised to find things not as they should be. The joys of restoring older equipment!

I will get some photos next time I am out working on the truck.

It appears that we have fixed the radiator leak, which will let us drive the truck to shows.

We started with running a radiator flush. That’s when we found the heater core disconnected. Then the controls and wiring were disconnected.

So we reconnected and fixed everything to do with the heater. That will be nice for Christmas parades.

Next on the list is to replace the missing CPT window, to reduce noise as we drive down the freeways.

A couple years ago, a friend bought this ex-Yermo fire truck and had been working on restoring it. He now has all the basic mechanical working good and drives it around my property regularly.

It’s been a while since I have had time to work on the fire truck. But this week I charged the batteries and got it running again.

Then did a flush of the cooling system in preparation of pulling the radiator for a rebuild. I have been loosing wired from the radiator.

As part of the flush procedure, it says to turn on the heater. While trying to turn on the heater, we found the cables were not hooked up properly and corrosion on the electrical switch.

Cleaned the corrosion and and fixed the heater controls. So we should have a heater for this years Christmas parade.

A check of the oil shows it is not going into the oil. There is no water coming out through the exhaust. Also no leaks found.

That leaves me with an internal leak in the radiator, between the engine side and water tank side.

Hopefully next week the radiator will be out and I will take it in to be rebuilt. Once it’s back in, that should pretty much take care of the basic mechanical systems on the truck.

Next repair after the radiator, is the CPT window. The window has been missing since o got the truck. I have been parking the truck alongside of a 40’ connex to block the missing window. But it will be nice to get a new window put in.

Then I will be ready to start checking valves and linkages. Once those are all working, replace missing/broken gages. The. We will be ready to try and pump water.

It could be ready to pump water by mid summer!

Thank you for following and have a great day!

Fired the crown Firetruck up on Wednesday getting ready for the city Christmas parade. Put two batteries in her and she fired right up. Drove around a bit and parked her.

Friday, picked her up from my shop storage and washed her her. Then purchased parts to put a railing up to keep Santa from falling.

Today, installed the Santa railing and attended the parade. Hopefully more photos to follow.

Need to get back to working on the restoration!
