Hey y'all! I haven't posted in a while but want everyone to know we're still here.
A couple days ago I had a former (regular) customer call and said they had something going on with the paint on their 2017 full size SUV, specifically, the hood, roof and mirrors had a "film" that wouldn't come off. They had washed and clay barred it themselves to no avail. The customer asked if I would look at it.
Well, the vehicle is a beautiful dark metallic charcoal gray. The first thing I saw was scratches on the hood running across and diagonal. Then below that, the paint was cloudy and splotchy white on 90% of the hood. The customer said the roof was the same and I could see the mirrors were even worse than the hood. There was no sense looking at the roof, I already knew what was going on.
They stopped using Precision Detailing in 2018. I was informed they had someone else washing their vehicles for a while. I feel safe saying that the person washing their vehicle was using a car wash brush, the ones that can be bought at Walmart or any auto parts store. That type brush, although the bristles appear soft, will most definitely scratch the clear coat finish of a vehicle. Then, here in town, an automatic car wash was built in 2020. The customer told me they "loved the car wash", " it [their vehicle] looked so good after going through the car wash." ALSO, this customer never, in the five years I did their work, let me wax any of their vehicles. Wax is a MUST on any car and car wash wax IS NOT THE SAME AS HAND WAX!
The car washes use concentrated soaps and chemicals mixed with water, by a computer controlled machine, to loosen dirt and grime, then spinning brushes do their thing [MICRO-FINE SCRATCHES]. The touchless car washes just use stronger soaps and chemicals which will eventually degrade and destroy the beautiful finish on your $40k-$100k+ car or truck.
People LOVE the automatic car washes for the price and convenience but, like this person found out, there's an added price you're going to pay down the road for that convenience!
NOTE: If you call me for an appointment and I can't do your vehicle in a timely manner, there are several other reputable detailers that I will gladly refer you to. (I know not to end a sentence with a preposition, but I just did😫) Precision Detailing and a lot, but not all other detail businesses, care about making your car look its best and taking care of it so it looks its best for a long time! Like I said in my original mission statement 13 years ago.
