My ride for the (very wet) weekend. #55 AOA Racing BMW 330i.
One of the things I love most about endurance racing is that it forces you to be completely present. Nothing else matters except the next corner and finding another small improvement.
Ironically, going faster means making mistakes.
Not big mistakes (the kind that end your race), but the tiny ones.
Maybe I released the brake a little too abruptly into the apex. Fix it next lap, and there’s a tenth.
Maybe I was too aggressive with the throttle on corner exit and asked a little too much from the rear tires. Smooth it out, and there’s another tenth.
Lap after lap, you make mistakes, learn from them, and get a little better.
Life isn’t all that different. We all make mistakes. The difference is that on a race track, you usually get another lap to try again. In life, some mistakes take much longer to recover from, and some you never fully get back.
That’s one of the reasons I love racing. It’s the ultimate mental reset. For a few hours, nothing exists except solving one problem after another while flirting with catastrophe at 120+ mph.
Looking forward to getting back behind the wheel this weekend at Road Atlanta. We’re currently sitting 2nd in the WRL GP2 Championship, so every lap counts 😉
