Good morning, Bensalem! Happy Thursday. We’re heading into the home stretch of the week, but if you drive a Honda (especially an Odyssey, Pilot, or Ridgeline) or an Acura (MDX/TLX) with a V6 engine, there is a specific sound you need to listen for before you hit I-95 this morning.

It’s the "Timing Belt Slap."

🔊 The Warning Sign You Can Hear
Unlike many cars where a timing belt fails silently, many Honda V6 engines have a unique early warning system: the Hydraulic Timing Belt Tensioner. When this part starts to leak or lose its "push," the timing belt loses its perfect tension. Instead of spinning smoothly, it starts to flutter and "slap" against the plastic timing cover.

Listen for: * A distinct "clacking" or "knocking" sound, especially when the engine is cold or at an idle.

It often sounds like a marble rattling in a plastic tin.

As the engine warms up, the sound might fade—but the danger doesn't.
