As Hurricane Isaiah brings concerns about severe weather, we want to take a moment to remind our friends, families, and neighbors that no destination is worth risking your life.
Here at K&K Sales, vehicles are a big part of what we do. But there's something far more important than any vehicle on our lot.
The people inside them.
Before heading out in heavy rain, please take a few minutes to check your vehicle.
A FEW SIMPLE CHECKS COULD SAVE A LIFE:
TIRES: Check your tread depth and tire pressure. Worn tires significantly increase your risk of hydroplaning.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS: Make sure they're clearing water properly. If they're streaking or skipping, it's time for replacements.
HEADLIGHTS: Make sure all exterior lights are working. Turn your headlights on in the rain so other drivers can see you.
BRAKES: Pay attention to unusual noises, vibrations, or reduced stopping performance.
FLUIDS: Check your oil, coolant, and windshield washer fluid before leaving.
BATTERY: Make sure your vehicle starts reliably and your battery connections are secure.
IF YOU MUST DRIVE IN HEAVY RAIN:
Slow down and leave extra distance between vehicles.
Avoid sudden braking and sharp turns.
Never use cruise control on wet roads.
Never drive through flooded roadways. You cannot judge the depth or condition of the road beneath the water.
If visibility becomes dangerously poor, find a safe place away from traffic to stop.
Never drive around barricades or ignore emergency road closures.
And please, if authorities are advising you to stay home, listen.
We understand that people have jobs to get to, families to provide for, and responsibilities that don't stop when the weather gets bad.
But remember this:
Your job can replace you. Your vehicle can be replaced. Your family can never replace YOU.
Life is precious, and sometimes the most important decision we can make is choosing to slow down, stay home, or wait until conditions improve.
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by Hurricane Isaiah, especially those facing damage, displacement, or uncertainty.
To our first responders, utility workers, and emergency personnel putting themselves in harm's way to protect our communities, thank you.
