🔧 **5 SERVICES THAT CAN HELP PREVENT EXPENSIVE BREAKDOWNS**

Nobody wakes up and says:

**“You know what would make today better? A $3,000 car repair.”** 😂

Unfortunately, some of the most expensive vehicle repairs start with maintenance that was overlooked.

Here are **5 services that can help keep small problems from becoming BIG ones:**

🛢️ **1. ENGINE OIL & FILTER CHANGES**

Oil lubricates, cools and protects the moving parts inside your engine.

Ignore it long enough and sludge, excessive wear and internal engine damage can follow.

**Small service → potentially VERY expensive engine.**

🌡️ **2. COOLING SYSTEM SERVICE**

Coolant doesn't just keep your engine from overheating. The correct coolant also helps protect the cooling system from corrosion.

Old, contaminated or low coolant can contribute to overheating and cooling-system damage.

And overheating an engine can get expensive **fast.**

⚙️ **3. TRANSMISSION FLUID SERVICE**

Your transmission depends on the correct fluid for lubrication, cooling and—in many transmissions—hydraulic operation.

Fluid deteriorates with heat and use.

Proper service can help protect the transmission you've already paid for.

**Important:** Transmission service requirements vary significantly by vehicle, so always follow the manufacturer's specifications.

🛑 **4. BRAKE FLUID SERVICE**

Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time.

That moisture can lower its boiling point and contribute to corrosion inside the hydraulic braking system.

Brake fluid is inexpensive.

ABS hydraulic components?

**Not so much.**

🛻 **5. DIFFERENTIAL & TRANSFER CASE SERVICE**

These are probably some of the most forgotten fluids on the entire vehicle.

Differentials and transfer cases contain gears, bearings and other components working under heavy loads.

Fresh, correct fluid helps control heat, reduce wear and protect those expensive drivetrain components.

# # # 🚨 HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART:

**Maintenance isn't about replacing fluids just because they're “old.”**

It's about following the correct maintenance schedule for **your specific vehicle** and catching problems before they become breakdowns.

At **RPM Car Care**, we can review your vehicle's maintenance history, check what's actually due and help you prioritize what needs attention now—and what can wait.

Because we'd much rather see you for scheduled maintenance...

**than see your car arrive on the back of a tow truck.** 😎

⚙️ DIFFERENTIAL & TRANSFER CASE SERVICE — WHAT IS IT AND WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?

Oil changes? Everyone knows about those.

Differential and transfer case fluid?

Your vehicle: “Hello?! I have fluids too!” 😂

These components do some seriously heavy lifting underneath your vehicle.

🔧 WHAT DOES THE DIFFERENTIAL DO?

Your differential transfers power to the drive wheels while allowing the left and right wheels to rotate at different speeds when you turn.

Inside are gears and bearings working under heavy loads—and they depend on gear oil for lubrication and protection.

🛻 WHAT ABOUT THE TRANSFER CASE?

On many 4WD and AWD vehicles, the transfer case helps distribute power between the front and rear axles.

It also contains gears, chains, bearings, clutches, or other components depending on the vehicle.

And just like your engine and transmission...

Those parts need the correct fluid.

SO WHAT HAPPENS TO THE FLUID?

Over time, heat, friction and normal wear can degrade the fluid and its additives.

The fluid may also accumulate tiny particles from normal component wear.

Neglect it long enough and you can potentially end up with:

⚠️ Increased gear and bearing wear
⚠️ Noise or whining
⚠️ Binding, chatter or vibration
⚠️ Poor AWD/4WD operation
⚠️ Seal and component problems
⚠️ Expensive differential or transfer case repairs

And here's the painful part...

💰 Fluid service is relatively inexpensive.

Replacing a differential or transfer case?

Not so much.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD THEY BE SERVICED?

There isn't one mileage interval that fits every vehicle.

The correct fluid and service interval depend on the manufacturer, vehicle and how it's used.

Towing, hauling, off-roading and other severe operating conditions may require more frequent service.

That's why we recommend checking your vehicle's maintenance schedule rather than relying on a universal mileage number.

At RPM Car Care, we can check your vehicle's maintenance requirements and help determine what's due.

Your engine isn't the only thing under your vehicle that needs fresh fluid.

Take care of the gears doing the dirty work. ⚙️

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU SKIP BRAKE FLUID SERVICE?

Your brake pads get all the attention.

Meanwhile, your brake fluid is quietly doing one of the most important jobs in your vehicle:

Transferring the force from your foot to the brakes.

Here's the problem…

💧 Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time.

As moisture builds up, it can lower the fluid's boiling point and contribute to corrosion inside the braking system.

So what can happen if brake fluid gets neglected?

⚠️ Reduced Boiling Point
Hard braking creates a LOT of heat. Moisture-contaminated brake fluid can boil more easily, potentially creating v***r in the hydraulic system and reducing braking effectiveness.

⚠️ Internal Corrosion
Moisture can contribute to corrosion inside brake lines, calipers, ABS components, and other hydraulic parts.

⚠️ Expensive ABS Repairs
Modern ABS hydraulic units contain small valves and passages. Keeping the correct fluid clean helps protect these expensive components.

⚠️ Changes in Brake Pedal Feel
Contaminated fluid isn't the only cause of a soft or unusual brake pedal, but any noticeable change in pedal feel deserves an inspection.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD BRAKE FLUID BE SERVICED?

There isn't one interval that applies to every vehicle.

Some manufacturers specify a time or mileage interval, while others recommend inspecting or testing the fluid periodically.

The best answer: follow your vehicle manufacturer's maintenance schedule and have the fluid condition checked during routine service.

And remember:

🛑 Brake fluid doesn't have to "look terrible" to have absorbed moisture.

At RPM Car Care, we can inspect your braking system and help determine whether your brake fluid is due for service.

Brake pads stop the wheels.
Brake fluid makes the whole hydraulic system work.

Don't forget about the stuff in between your foot and the brakes. 😎

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU REALLY ROTATE YOUR TIRES?

Your tires might not complain when they're being neglected...

But your wallet eventually will. 💸

For many vehicles, a good rule of thumb is to rotate your tires about every 5,000–7,500 miles. However, the correct interval and rotation pattern depend on your vehicle, tires, and drivetrain—so your owner's manual and tire manufacturer's recommendations should come first.

Why bother rotating them?

✅ Helps tires wear more evenly
✅ Can extend the life of your tires
✅ Helps maintain predictable handling and traction
✅ Gives us a chance to spot unusual tire wear early
✅ May help protect your tire warranty when rotations are required

And here's the important part:

Uneven tire wear can tell us a story.

Wear on one edge? ➡️ Possible alignment issue
Wear in the center? ➡️ Check tire pressure
Wear on both edges? ➡️ Possible underinflation
Cupping or scalloping? ➡️ Time to inspect suspension, balance, and alignment

Simply rotating the tires doesn't fix the reason they're wearing incorrectly.

Think of tire rotations like switching seats at Thanksgiving dinner—it keeps one tire from doing all the work. 😂

Not sure when yours were rotated last?

Bring your vehicle to RPM Car Care and we'll help you keep an eye on your tires before a small wear problem turns into four expensive new ones.

Good maintenance isn't just about fixing your car. It's about getting the most life out of the parts you've already paid for.

**That little horseshoe-looking light on your dashboard?**

Your car isn't telling you that you won a prize. 😂

That's your **Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)** warning.

Low tire pressure can contribute to:

* Uneven tire wear
* Reduced fuel economy
* Poor handling
* Increased tire heat
* Shortened tire life

Temperature changes can also affect tire pressure, which is why that little light sometimes seems to magically appear when the weather changes.

Don't just stare at it until it goes away.

Check the pressures and find out **why** it came on.

Your tires are the only part of your vehicle actually touching the road. They're kind of important.

**WIPER BLADES:**

Ignored for six months.

Then suddenly expected to perform like Navy SEALs during a Missouri thunderstorm. 😂

If your wipers are:

* Streaking
* Chattering
* Skipping
* Smearing
* Leaving half the windshield untouched

…it may be time.

Good visibility isn't just convenient—it's a safety issue.

And unfortunately, leaning forward and squinting through the windshield does **not** increase your wipers' effectiveness.

We've tested that theory.

**Everyone blames winter when their battery dies.**

Meanwhile, summer is standing in the corner trying not to laugh. ☀️😂

Extreme heat can accelerate the chemical reactions and internal deterioration that shorten a battery's life. Then cold weather arrives and gets blamed when the weakened battery finally gives up.

Watch for:

* Slower-than-normal cranking
* Electrical issues
* Dim lights during starting
* A battery that's several years old
* That suspicious *rrr…rrr…maybe…nope* sound

Don't wait until you're dressed for work and your car decides it's taking a personal day.

We can test your battery and charging system and let you know how things are looking.

**Your car has a CHECK ENGINE light.**

Interestingly, the engineers did **not** call it the:

“Check It Next Month Light.” 😂

A check-engine light can come on for hundreds of different reasons—from relatively minor issues to problems that can damage expensive components if ignored.

One important distinction:

**Solid check-engine light:** Usually means the vehicle should be diagnosed soon.

**Flashing check-engine light:** Much more urgent. A severe misfire may be occurring that can damage the catalytic converter.

And no… clearing the code does not fix the car. That's basically automotive hide-and-seek.

At RPM Car Care, we believe in **testing before replacing parts**.

**NAIL IN YOUR TIRE? DON’T PANIC.**

Unless it’s Sunday night. Then you’re allowed to panic a *little*. 😂

If you spot a nail or screw in your tire, resist the urge to yank it out like you’re pulling a splinter. That little piece of metal may actually be slowing down the leak.

Instead:

* Leave it in place
* Check your tire pressure
* Avoid unnecessary driving if pressure is dropping
* Have the tire inspected

Depending on the location and size of the puncture, the tire may be safely repairable.

A $40-ish problem can become a $200+ tire pretty quickly if you keep driving on it.
