Pulled this cabin filter at our Bremerton shop last week. Leaves and maple seeds, packed right in where the air for your heater and defroster comes through.

This time of year it's the one we find stuffed full the most. Every tree in Kitsap is dropping everything it's got, and a lot of it ends up at the base of the windshield. If your defroster is slow to clear the glass on these foggy mornings, or the vents smell a little musty, this is an easy one to check first.

Rain's back, and so are the mice. Clinton wrote a piece for Bainbridge Island Living on the two fall problems we see most around Kitsap: rodents chewing wiring under the hood, and water getting under the carpet, where a lot of today's computer modules sit.

A few easy checks: pop the hood now and then and look for leaves or nests, feel your floor carpets for damp spots, and run the defroster with the A/C on for the first few minutes of each drive.

If something seems off, bring it in. We'll take a look and show you photos of what we find before any work is done. We've worked that way since 2015.

We plug in VAG-COM to track down the real problem. Turns out it also keeps an eye on the death ray. Status 1.85, missiles at 0.0, coolant a comfy 77.4°C. Multi-Ball Madness still under review. (Credit to Ross-Tech for hiding these in the software.)

That red gauge is 3 millimeters thick. We hold gauges like it up to the brake pad on cars like this Infiniti G37 to see how much pad is left, so the number on your inspection comes from a measurement.

Excellence means measuring before we tell you the pads need replacing, or that they don't.
