Friday is maintenance day. Pictured are titanium anode baskets. In the left picture, left basket you can see the nickel squares. Each basket is covered with a cloth bag--to keep particles, created when the nickel is oxidized, from embedding in the electroplated nickel layer on the part. Twice a year we empty each nickel bath, clean the solution, check the tank, replace anode bags, clean anode baskets, fill and then pump the clean nickel solution back into the tank.

The Hull cell. A small electroplating tank were we test solutions. A brass panel is plated and the resulting plated metal is observed. If changes are needed, the change is made in the Hull cell, and tested, before making the additions in the working tank.

Welds are tricky. If not done correctly there are usually pits that appear when we grind the welds smooth.

A little metallurgy: the force needed to change this bumpers shape needs to be greater than the yield strength of the steel. If this happens the shape changes, permanently, This is known as plastic deformation.
