Pontiac was an up-start from its beginning fighting a battle for survival that all other “companion cars” lost. As such, it made a name for itself that continued on with innovation-after-innovation trying to always be ahead of others. Many of these new products and designs went on to become identifying items that will forever be associated with Pontiac and the great car it was for so long. Here is a “Purely Pontiac” item (or is it?) still admired and sought after today.

Read about these True Pontiac innovative wheels-brakes in our On-Line Magazine at PontiacRegistry.com.

Not to be overshadowed by the beautiful high performance full-sized cars that Pontiac was cranking out in the early '60s, we bring you the all new Pontiac step into the compact car arena... the 1961 Tempest. This is probably the most extensive review of this completely new car that we have ever read. Perhaps because it was by Sports Cars Illustrated magazine. Was the Tempest a "sports car?" Maybe they thought so based on the boxes it ticked and when compared to what was heretofore dominated by European vehicles of all sorts... smaller, 4-cylinder, economical, independent suspension- heck, maybe it was a sports car! But whatever it was (still is) they sure evaluated the daylights out of it, and came out quite impressed. So if you're thinking about a new Pontiac hobby car, give this "Little Indian" a good look-see. We think you will be impressed too. Sadly, while it may have be evolutionary engineering-wise, it wasn't revolutionary, as its particular quirks were short lived. But don't let that stop you, there is a lot of support for these cars out there for you.

Check out this 1961 Tempest "Sports Car" in our On-Line Magazine at PontiacRegistry.com.

BTW, this is our 225th Vintage Test Report and Magazine Reprint posted for you. Join and read every one of them, and much more.

Many can say that they have made "impulse" decisions when it comes to their Pontiac hobby, but few have actually walked away with a beautiful car that was not planned for. It happens though, and in this case, who can blame the new owner? This beautiful fully restored '56 Star Chief would be a dream-come-true for anyone. We're happy to share this story and photos of this magnificent piece of Pontiac's '50s transition to their sporting, performance- and yet still remarkably beautiful- cars. Our thanks to Pontiac hobbyist and automotive author Jim Black for sharing this article with us.

Enjoy this beautiful '56 Pontiac Star Chief convertible in our On-Line Magazine at PontiacRegistry.com.

Seldom do we find things on-line, especially Facebook, worth dwelling on, much less sharing. But we have to admit that this time while cruisin' the web we came across a post by a well-respected Pontiac hobbyist and historian that was well-worth further digging and then sharing. After all, that's how we're gonna keep our favorite car information out for others to learn from and hopefully even share some more. In this case it was a look back at the evolution of the infamous Trans Am hood "Bird" decal and some interesting insights (responses) into just how it impacted the assembly line process.

Take a look at how giving the Trans Am the Bird came about and grew to become the iconic symbol it is today in our On-Line Magazine at PontiacRegistry.com.

(NOTE: This article is Article #1,836 posted on our site. When you join you receive every one of them and much more. Like subscribing to a magazine and getting every back issue.)

Perhaps the closest one might get to time traveling is this current display of many of General Motors' greatest concept designs from the golden years of the '50s and into the '60s at The Gilmore museum in Michigan. And lucky for us Pontiac lovers, the world's largest collector and restorer of these cars, Joe Bortz, has saved a number of Pontiac's best looks into the future to display for everyone to enjoy and marvel at again. This recreation of the GM Motorama excitement shows the optimism of this time when anything was possible and the future was limitless. Running for a year, this is a must-do vacation stop if in the area.

Enjoy this look back in time at The Gilmore and featured in our On-Line Magazine at PontiacRegistry.com.

Once again (after a long delay) we are working our way through this unique brochure put out for the 75th Anniversary of Pontiac. But as we point out, this is an entirely different piece from the "official" PMD anniversary piece (which we have also posted). This one was produced by the ad agency that handled PMD's advertising... strange, huh? Perhaps, but interesting insights into the history and working of PMD from a noncorporate perspective.

In this segment the story of Semon "Bunkie" Knudsen is outlined and proper credit given to his pivotal role in moving Pontiac from #6 to #3 in U.S. auto production. And in the process cementing Pontiac as the performance leader of GM for many years.

Read all about this famous man and his part in making Pontiac great in our On-Line Magazine at Pontiacregistry.com.

In this test report of what must have been an early Can Am release we see a boat-load of optimism. Not only were these writers quite impressed with this newest Pontiac version of a performance car (current restrictions not withstanding- they understood this), but they considered this the "savior" of sorts for those who longed for a replacement GTO. We know, we know... but they might have come around eventually. Unfortunately, they had no idea that their enthusiasm would soon be dashed in a series of rather minor matters. But the high-up-muckety-mucks were all a dither about anything performance-wise and wasted no time pulling the plug (aka Chickening Out!). What was left was a low-production Pontiac specialty car that has grown in popularity since. Rightfully so too.

Check out this early '77 Can Am test report in our On-Line Magazine at PontiacRegistry.com.

Spring has sprung and with it Pontiacs and other collectables are back out either on the road already or darn close to it. But not every Pontiac is necessarily hitting the road... some are hitting the water. Well some of them, others are water craft wanna-bes. But whatever the case, we have here some pretty interesting takes on Pontiacs-meet-Boats. While not everyone's cup of tea, you gotta admit that if you like Pontiacs AND boating this might be something to consider. Whether you like cruising and making waves in the water, or just cruising and getting waves from on-lookers this is different with a capital "D."

Who hasn't fallen in love with the Pontic sedan deliveries the first time laying eyes on one? Most, we'd bet. Even if you weren't an early Pontiac lover, there was a cool factor that is undeniable. In this old fold-out brochure there was every effort made to convince the local business owners just how much they needed one-- and it could even advertise your business as well. Since the 1920s when Pontiac built a small amount of trucks, Pontiacs saw little hauling duty. And actually, "little" was the word for these vehicles too as they were more for the small business that also did deliveries. Pontiac trucks went from hauling hay to hauling furs and roses... and lots more.

What few were built sadly found their way into rougher duty as the original owners finished with them. Like so many station wagons, the local painter, carpenter, plumber, etc. put their open backspace to good (rough) use. Today they are quite rare as a result. While U.S. production of these trucks continued through 1953, Canada continued on for a few more years. Interestingly, Chevrolet also build their version, and few know, but Oldsmobile even cranked out a small quantity making them perhaps the rarest of all.
