Recently there has been countless reposting of an article where the International Union for Conservation of Nature declared that the monarch butterfly has been placed on the Endangered list.
THAT IS NOT TRUE!
IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) is a private group that is based in Switzerland and funded by many groups that are either anti-raising or anti release that fear that the monarch is going to become extinct. The monarch WILL NEVER become extinct. It Inhabits several continents. Like most other common butterflies, they will always experience blooms and decline in populations. That’s how Nature works. A population blooms, the predators move in and eat them. Once they eat enough (population decline) the predators leave the area and the population heads toward another bloom. Also, through urban sprawl, habitat destruction, and increased chemical warfare by human, will cause declines.
What the ICUN article failed to mention that Monarch Watch has reported a 33% increase of Monarchs this year. Instead, they chose to spin off on an older article that was published by one of the ”We don’t want anybody to study butterflies but us groups. Now the IUCN never worked or consulted with U.S. Fish & Wildlife, and it has absolutely no power to place anything on the U.S. Endangered species list. They just decided to post their false claims without any right to do so. FWS has the monarch listed as (potentially) threatened, but it is NOT listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act in the United States. unfortunately reporting good news story isn’t as attention grabbing as “The Sky is Falling in and all of the butterflies will be dead by noon article. That is why so many anti home rearing groups keep posting Doomsday articles. They need to keep you scared so you keep sending them money.
