⚠️ Just Because It Fits Doesn’t Mean It’s Right! 🔧

We recently had a Chevy Cruze come through the shop that kept blowing transmission cooler lines. Sometimes the repair would last a week — other times only two days before another line failed.

After digging into the problem, we found the real culprit: an aftermarket transmission oil cooler that wasn’t designed to the proper specifications for the vehicle.

Take a look at the picture. 👀 The black cooler is the aftermarket unit that was removed, and the silver one is the OEM replacement. There’s a pretty serious difference between the two.

The aftermarket cooler had its inlet and outlet positioned on the same side. The OEM design routes the fluid differently, allowing transmission fluid to properly circulate and distribute through the cooler.

This is a good example of why we always say diagnose the cause — don’t just keep replacing the part that failed. If something keeps breaking over and over again, there’s usually a reason behind it.

It’s also a reminder that not every aftermarket part is created equal. There are plenty of good aftermarket parts out there, but the design, quality, and application have to be right for the vehicle.

💨 High Compression in the Cooling System? Your 6.7 Cummins Might Be Trying to Tell You Something 💨

Had a 6.7L Cummins come in building excessive pressure in the cooling system, and this is one of those issues diesel owners definitely don’t want to ignore.
On these engines, high compression entering the cooling system usually means combustion pressure is finding its way where it shouldn’t be — and that can point to some serious problems if left unchecked.

🚨 Common signs of compression in the cooling system:
Coolant pushing out of the overflow bottle
Upper radiator hose getting rock hard shortly after startup
Repeated coolant loss with no visible leak
Overheating under load or towing
Bubbling in the coolant reservoir

💡 What causes it?
Possible causes can include:
Head gasket failure
Cracked cylinder head
Lifted head from excessive boost pressure
EGR cooler failure (in some cases)
The important thing is diagnosing it correctly before major damage happens.
