Oh yeah that's almost definitely your shocks or struts. When those wear out your car basically loses the ability to control the spring after it compresses over a bump, so instead of one nice controlled motion you get that wallowing bouncy boat feeling where it just keeps rocking. Totally normal wear item honestly, they don't last forever.

The bounce test is easy to do yourself actually. Push down hard on one corner of the car and let go. If it comes back up and settles in one motion you're fine, but if it keeps bouncing two or three times those shocks are done.

Don't ignore it though.

It feels like just a comfort thing but worn shocks mess with your braking distance and your ability to keep the tires planted in a turn, which is a safety thing not just a ride quality thing. And the longer you drive on blown shocks the faster your tires wear unevenly which turns one repair into two. Swing by and we can take a look, it's a pretty straightforward fix.

Oh yeah that's a different situation than a steady light so don't ignore it. A steady check engine light means something needs attention but a blinking one means there's an active misfire happening right now and you really should pull over when it's safe to do so.

Driving on a blinking check engine light can fry your catalytic converter pretty fast.

What's usually going on is one or more cylinders aren't firing correctly, could be a bad spark plug, a failing coil pack, a fuel injector issue, stuff like that. The computer starts flashing at you because unburned fuel is getting pushed into the exhaust system and that creates a ton of heat where heat shouldn't be. A misfire by itself is often a pretty manageable fix but if you keep driving on it and take out the catalytic converter you're looking at turning a small job into a much bigger one.

So yeah, blinking means now. Get it looked at before it snowballs on you.

This is one of the most common things we get asked about, and most of the time it's not as scary as it looks.

A little puff of white smoke on a cold morning is just condensation burning off and that's totally normal, nothing to worry about at all. But if you're seeing thick white smoke that keeps going after the engine warms up, that usually means coolant is getting into the combustion chamber where it doesn't belong. The usual suspects are a failing head gasket, a cracked cylinder head, or sometimes a cracked block, and a good shop can narrow it down pretty quickly with a pressure test or a chemical test on the coolant system.

It's very fixable.

If you're also losing coolant without seeing a puddle under the car, or if the temperature gauge is creeping higher than usual, those are signs it's time to bring it in sooner rather than later. Catching it early keeps the repair simpler and a lot easier on your wallet. We're happy to take a look whenever you're ready.
