We’re closing out Fall Car Care Month with something that becomes more noticeable every week this time of year: how much driving we do in the dark.

Headlights help you see what’s ahead on our mountain roads, while brake lights and turn signals let everyone around you know what you’re doing. As the days get shorter, it's important to make sure all of them are working properly.

That also brings us back to the point of this entire Fall Car Care Month series. Tires, brakes, battery, fluids, filters, heat, visibility, and lighting all tell you where your vehicle stands before winter arrives. Knowing now gives you time to plan for what it needs.

This is one of those problems you probably wouldn’t spot unless you knew what you were looking at.👀

The coolant in this vehicle is gold. The manufacturer calls for G48 coolant, which is dark teal/blue. Coolant isn’t universal, and using the wrong type can create compatibility and cooling-system concerns that need to be addressed correctly.

This is why our cooling system work goes beyond simply topping off coolant. We identify what’s in the vehicle, look for leaks or other problems, and make sure the system has the correct coolant before determining what service or repair it needs.

By this point in the fall, mornings in Boone and Blowing Rock are getting colder, windshields are taking longer to clear, and you’re probably using your wipers more often.

That makes it time to check your heater, defrosters, and wiper blades. Your heater should warm the cabin properly, your defrosters should clear the windshield, and your wipers should leave you with a clear view instead of streaks across the glass.

For Fall Car Care Month, the goal is simple: make sure you can stay warm and see clearly as the weather changes.

Seeing the ABS light come on doesn’t mean we already know what needs to be replaced.

That light gives us a place to start. From there, our job is to test the system and figure out what caused the warning. Especially with the steep grades and winding roads around Boone and Blowing Rock, your braking systems aren’t something we want to guess at.
