CJ5 Jeep Restoration By Collin Julian This page is to document the restoration of my CJ5 Jeep. On April 12, 2016 I Purchased 2 CJ5 Jeeps one has a good body and the other is for parts.

Pretty sure the motor that is with the jeep is not going to make it due to it has been sitting for as long as it has. I hope to find another one for the jeep if anyone knows where I can find another motor for my CJ5 comment below to let me know. I want to either keep it at a V6 or if I can find a V8 at a decent price I would like to go with that but either is okay!

Being a Storm Spotter I love chasing storms and I got to thinking about having the jeep set up to where it can be a chase vehicle! If I did this I would have it all set up with all the equipment to storm chase during tornado season! What do you all think? I think it would be awesome! I am pretty excited about the idea!

I can't wait until the weather warms up so I can get back to working on the jeep! The high winds today blew off the tarp I had over her and when I was covering her back up I was thinking "I can't wait to get back to fixing her up. I also can't wait until I get to drive her for the first time!" Come on warmer weather!!!!

Motor is in WoooHooo!!!! 🎉🎊😁👍Now to just bolt up the transmissions mount/cross member then hook up driveshaft! Then gonna drop the gas tank and make sure its all clean, put all new fluids in and try cranking that baby over!!!! I am just so glad we finally got the motor mounted! We have never had that much trouble mounting a motor in our lifes!

We were at a stand still because the motor mount arms which mount to the frame that were on the 74 Jeep were the wrong mounts for the motor we took out of the 71 the motor out of the 71 looks to be a 255, odd fire. Today from around 12 noon to about 5:30 or 6:00pm we were carefully removing the motor mount arms from the 71 Jeep frame which were welded on so we had to surgically remove them while making sure we didn't compromise the structure of the mounts. Lets just say it was a pain in the butt, but we finally removed them we left a small piece of the frame on each mount arm and plan to grind that off very carefully in a vice so we can make sure we don't cut in to the mount arm which would have been hard not to do if we removed the small piece while still on the frame because of the cutting angles. Hopefully this will work because if not I will be purchasing new ones which will run me about $250.00 to $300.00 because they are "custom fabrication mount arms". That's not to much money but it is money I could have spent on something else for the jeep lol. Pictured below (Before Picture) are the mount arms we spent the day removing.

Check out theses seat covers that came with the old Jeep when I bought it lol! They were on there when the person who had it before me purchased it from someone else and now they are falling apart because the sun and weather has gotten to them. Interesting though! I have gotten a lot of comments about the seat covers from people who have seen the Jeep while I have been working on it.

I want to welcome and say thank you to everyone who has recently liked my page! I have notices that most of my likes have been from around here in the us but some of my recent likes have been from jeep owners (Jeep family) from different places around the world and that is awesome! Thank you again for liking my page and joining me during this restoration journey! After the restoration is over I plan to still keep this page up and going but I will rename it and it will pretty much be a page of the jeep and things I do and places I go in the jeep. I still need to think of a name for the CJ5 but I haven't come up with one yet! If you have any ideas comment them below or message me your ideas. Keep in mind the jeep will be bright yellow and black (you can see the color yellow I have chosen if you scroll down some of my previous posts) I will most likely rename the page to the name of the jeep so I need to think of a name soon so I can have it ready when the jeep is restored and I am ready to change the page over lol.

Good news I was in luck today! My father in law called me last night to see if we had gotten the motor in yet and I told him what was up with the motor mount and cross member bolts and he told me to come down today because he was pretty sure he had some. I went and picked them up today and I'm going to work on getting the motor mounts on next!

Well finally got the transmission out of the jeep so the new trans and motor can go in. I am having to use the other motor mounts and 2 of my bolts are missing so I am at a stand still until Tuesday when the auto parts store here in town is opened back up. Apparently O'Reilly's, AutoZone, Orschel's don't have the bolts. We even tried Walmart just incase because you never know they have all kinds of crap lol! I guess I'm gonna work on the small stuff until then, but cant wait to get the CJ5 all panted its going to look sweet when I'm all finished! I also have to pick up 4 bolts for the cross member that holds the transmission because the old ones are shot and none of the places above had those either. A big thank you to my DAD for all the help the past few days you are AWESOME! I couldn't have gotten this far with out your help!

So here is the final color choice! It's going to look sick! I'm going to Blackout the roll bar, grille, bumpers, and getting blacked out weeks and fender flares! Can't wait to paint the dash/guage plate I have an idea that I think is gonna look pretty sweet! So stay tuned to that!
